I like to edge band exposed edge shelves on all my projects. Usually, I cut thin strips of whatever wood I am working with and glue and clamp it to the plywood shelf edge. This pre-glued veneer makes that easy using a heat gun or iron. I found that there was sufficient glue on the veneer and if reheated you can actually remove or reposition it. This is not a large roll so there is not much to do multiple projects and it should be offered in larger rolls of different widths. The wood itself is solid with a beautiful grain (as walnut should be) and measures a full 1/48" (not counting the glue).

This walnut edge banding seems to be holding up as well as I'd expect. It glued on fairly easily with minimal warping and resticking. The wood veneer itself has beautiful grain patterns. I haven't used this for an edge that is actually 1 and 1/2 inch, so I can't speak to the glue laying all the way to the edge. But for my 1"+ edge, this glued down well and I trimmed and sanded down the extra to a beautiful edge.
