I washed it before I added it and had no issues. It came in what looked like an old rice bag but it is beautiful and looks great in the tank.

This is a little over 24hrs after laying down the substrate. The cloudiness has significantly decreased but I figure I’ll have to let this sit for a few days and that any disruption of the sand will kick it up again. This is on me, I should have rinsed and washed more— but after about two hours of rinsing I decided I’d deal with the cloudiness. This sand is incredibly dirty, like just absolutely covered in clay. When I opened up the plastic bag it came it, there were actually plumes of visible dust come out of the bag. Aside from the clay I did notice some organic debris , but these rinsed out very easily.I’m not sure why, but in the photos the sand looks a lot more brown than it does irl. Like another review said, it’s a brick red color. It’s absolutely gorgeous, vibrant, and was exactly the color I wanted— but if I had found any other options of a similar color that were prerinsed I absolutely would’ve gone with that instead. Two hours of rinsing is a lot of work to end up with a cloudy tank anyway.

Boiled the sand a few times like others have said to do. Then strained it a few times with clean water. Despite all of that when I put it in my tank and added the water it was extremely cloudy.. It's been 24 hours with a Fluval fx 2 filter running the whole time and it's still cloudy as shown in the picture..

Many complaints on cloudy water but most likely didn’t rinse out enough as mine stayed crystal clear. The sand is a brick color and would probably look great in a black water setup. Used 3 bags in a 4ft. x 2ft. tank for reference.

I try to purchase only natural sand for my fish tanks, this sand seems to be natural! My water conditions are perfect, and have experienced no color loss after months of having it. Beautiful sand.

Definitely not prepared aquarium sand. Chinese writing when translated made clear this was sand for cultivating rice. Can be used in an aquarium just be prepared to boil it to get rid of organic contaminants and a heavy amount of clay.
