They came lightly oiled and with all corners (I think sanded?) so they're not sharp. Just a little material smoothed out. They fit my application perfectly, I needed to cut it into 1-1.5 inch slices and tap them to put a little ball and spring set screw. I then welded them to a steel plate and made a case for sockets. I got sick of digging around an ammo can for the right socket and the blow molded plastic pollution they sell the sockets in is about as useful as a paper cup.

The bars came with clean cut ends and in a box wrapped in plastic. The metal was in good condition. Just what I was hoping for.
