Where it Goes:
The 14 inch DEEP DRIP Watering Stake is designed to efficiently and effectively water your shallow root plants such as shrubs, vines, potted plants, and small trees directly at the roots.
Two to Three stakes per plant is recommended
Place 2-3 stakes around plant in a triangle or one on either side, close to plant’s base but avoiding the root ball
How it Works:
DEEP DRIP waters, fertilizes, and aerates directly at the roots, conserving up to 50% of your outdoor water use by preventing wasteful run off, evaporation, and excess surface watering.
The specially engineered cap is UV-protected and designed for hammering into the ground with a three to five pound sledgehammer.
Get in The Ground
- Hammer the top of your stake’s cap and drive it into the ground, using a three to five pound sledgehammer. Continue to hammer until the stake is buried and leave the shaft’s top hole exposed. Don’t strike at an angle or with a drip line connected or hammer an uncapped stake.
- If you have dense, tough, hard, or compacted soil; pre-soak the planting area and/or use a soil softener to soften the ground before installation. Once the area is well-saturated, hammer your DEEP DRIP Stake into the ground as far as it will go (with stake cap on)
- Take the cap off and run water directly into the stake to start softening the soil from below. Repeat the process until you have driven the stake all the way into the ground, leaving the stake’s top hole exposed. - You can also use a 1.25 inch auger bit to pre-drill a hole where you wish to place the stake for even easier installation
Using a Drip Line
- Once driven in the ground, remove your stake's cap
- Insert the end of your ¼” drip line down into the stake, with the adjustable emitter head sitting halfway between the shaft’s first and second holes
- Place the stake’s caps back over the shaft, securing the drip-line in place with the caps slotted drip line hole
- As water enters the stake through the drip line, it will deliver water deep underground to the plant’s feeder roots
- Ask your local nursery professional for recommendations on watering levels, times, and refill rates specific to your plant’s needs – the more DEEP DRIP Stakes around your plant, the lower the flow and watering time needed
Using a Hose
- Dig a well around your plant; larger plants will need a larger well and more stakes (follow the stake placement guide for instructions on how many stakes your plant will need)
- Inside the plant well, bury stakes, leaving the stake’s cap on and top hole just above ground.
- Place your hose on a slow, but steady flow within the well
- As the well fills up, water will flow into the top hole of your stake, watering deep down to your plant’s roots.
- Ask your local nursery professional for recommendations on watering levels, times, and refill rates specific to your plant’s needs.

Have installed several of these stakes and let me tell you they are built! Their durability was not realized until hard ground was encountered. Provided instructions are clearly understood and useful regardless of soil conditions experienced. Living in a desert environment these are the perfect solution to ensure plants and trees receive adequate water. Give them a try you will not be disappointed!

Started with a few of these around smaller fruit (apple and orange) trees planted in garden. Within a week, the plants perked up, deeper green… within a few weeks, better growth. I ended up buying a lot more for the rest of my garden. Also nice that it keeps the water off the foliage.

They fit the end of the hose, the water comes out. They're easy to put in the ground. They're doing their part perfectly to keep the trees alive. Now if I can do mine we should be OK. (They DO NOT call me Mr Green Jeans)

For newly planted trees, it can be important to have the roots go deeper in search of water, rather than coming to the surface. These stakes (in various depths) have proven themselves time after time for me. They aren't as cheap as you might initially expect for just a small amount of plastic - but IMO they've proven themselves worth it.

We live in Arizona, and you have to make the hole with a metal stake because the pvc plastic would shatter going into rocks and hard ground. But once you get it in there, it works great to put your drip line in and it helps get deep water to your plants. Very important to keep the tree from moving towards neighbors walls and help the roots sink deeper down. Saved me the time from trying to make my own PVC pipe with holes in it. Plus this has a cap, so you can pull it off and fertilize as well!
