One knurled nut locks the shovel/pick and the position of the handle into place. The mechanism works well. The manufacturer clearly shows the product dimensions in the advertising, but I was a bit surprised that this was smaller than my old army surplus tool. Now, that's entirely on me - and this is not presented in a negative light. When digging snow out from under your car, a smaller shovel head may very well be appreciated. It also makes the tool lighter in a backpack, and it takes up less room, too. The tool comes with a nice canvas pouch for storage. I am pleased with the quality and price of this tool. Buy one for each of your vehicles!

I have been at these products for awhile now, now that I have it I wish I would have ordered it earlier!!!! IT has everything I need and lightweight!!!! If you do any activities outdoors hunting, fishing and camping I highly recommend you get this tool. I had ordered another one that cost more and returned it as soon as I got this one.

This isn't easy. I expected a 100% scale e-tool analog. What I got was a garden shovel, with roid rage. I bought this for my work truck bag, so I was disappointed at what I got. But I was up at Government Camp, putting on chains and this Chihuahua of a shovel worked like a dream, picking and shoveling out the ice behind the tires, so I could roll back on to the chains. The blasted thing works, well. I cannot emphasize this enough. Read the entire write up, on every product you want to buy. Get A fact based sense of what it is. And decide from there. This thing is smaller than an E-TOOL. Lighter than an E-TOOL, and just as strong as an E-TOOL. It's place in my work EDC is beyond secured. It is affirmed. Knowing now what I didn't know then, I would absolutely but it again and recommend it to anyone, in need of an emergency shovel type tool. I wouldn't dig a fox hole with this thing, but under the right circumstances, it's worth every cent.

This is absolutely perfect for bathroom work while in the woods camping or overlanding! Hiking or exploring as well. Light weight and built like the military E tool. I would not dig a fox hole or bang on trees to much because it probably would not last long.

Update: I got a replacement to see if it would make a difference and I'm pleased to say that I'm in love.I have a very small balcony container garden but I do mix a good amount of soil by myself. This shovel makes very quick work of it. Excited to eventually take it for a spin while foraging. Very compact and easy to carry. Bumped up the rating to reflect the major difference in quality between the defective item, as it was previously 1 star.Something to note, the defective shovel that I received first did not have any branding on the storage bag, nor did it have the padding that is advertised. The replacement has clear branding like in the pictures. If you receive one that does not say "AugTouf" on the front of the bag and is very thin and unpadded, it may be a defect.Old review: Could not even move the locking nut with a wrench. It was completely stuck. Very disappointed, as the size was perfect.

It works as a shovel but if you had to do hard digging you’d probably break this shovel. Also the sheath is kinda poorly made, it ripped off my backpack while hiking through Alaska and left me without a shovel for three days because I didn’t notice it had fallen off

Update after a couple of months : add a star, abused it with one week at the beach (paint went off a bit, couple of places have rusted but it holds good), after that one week doing excavation in the backyard (more dings but still alive). Ultimately...that is a good product.Used by my son (9) on a riverbank. He gave a couple of blows on a driftwood and it bent (angle = 15%). I was abble to straighen it with blows of my own... Was expecting better quality.
