I used the polyethylene plastic end cap to cover an unused umbrella hole in a black iron patio table. The table's hole was about 2-1/4"D and the end cap's flexible ribs along the cap's shaft made it a good, snug and secure fit. The 2-3/8"D end cap's diameter acted like a lip to prevent the end cap from falling through the hole.

Yes, these fit VERY tight and snug in a standard 2 3/8" galvanized fence post. However, they work a lot better with sch20 rather than sch40, as the fins are a bit stiff and can/will break when you're smacking them down into the posts.But, they are a great option when you're wrapping the metal posts in 2x4s, but leaving the tops exposed and want to keep rainwater out of them.
