Got these to use on rain barrels that we set up. Using the string is a great way to get the threaded inset into the hole, but its a little difficult to hold in place while your screw on the locking nut.Overall, they seem to be working well after I was able to seal off any leaks. I do not see any issues with the build quality for the price point.

It is nice that the whole set up for creating a tap on a rain barrel is provided. The instructions do not specify that a one-inch hole is needed for the fitting. You must go back to the website for that detail. The provided instructions show a simplistic suggestion for using the provided string to get the fitting in place without needing to have access to the inside (see photo). The instructions leave out how to get the string through the bottom hole or how to hold the fitting still as you screw on the outer nut. Overall the quality seems good and the seal water tight. I did a blow test to check for water tightness. I look forward to using these to set up more rain barrels for my garden.

This was obtained to provide a means of draining a water barrel that is used to transfer fresh water to our RV. I had doubts about how to assemble the components using a string to lower parts to a tiny one inch hole that I can't access. So in following the instructions, I could not tighten the thru wall fitting to get a leak proof seal. The illustration looked easy enough but in practice, the internal nut can not be tightened from the exterior. So how do they do it without leakage? The plastic valves should last a while but never the less, The internal nut needs to be tightened somehow. I am going to give this product a 4 star rating because I may be able to create a socket to insert and hold on to the internal nut. If this works, I will update with a five star rating. But the parts them selves are a good quality and design. I believe I can work this out.

I love the full flow. Usually I am using the water sparingly from my rain barrels, but on occasion (like when I am filling a bucket) I want the water to flow out very quickly. This cut off valve allows for that. I have tried many others and this is the first that is this open.I did not try the use of the rope for the bulkhead fitting (my barrels are open now) but I have to say I am very wary of that working. Check out other reviews to see if someone tried it.

For the price, these will work well for light duty (i.e. suburb rain barrel) application. If to be removing the hose frequently, operating valve, or used in a location susceptible to being jarred, I'd go with something stronger (i.e. steel). I say this as I irrigate at a small farm pulling IBC tote and wouldn't use this valve there. But it'll work fine on the permanent rain barrel I use at a suburb house. I'd recommend to a friend. If my thoughts change, I'll update this review. Take care!

Install is pretty easy depending on the type of barrel you are using. These also work fine on 5 gallon buckets for things like camping or outdoor events where you just need a little water for hand washing or other things. The valves are snug enough to not leak, but once mounted are easily gripped and open and close without too much effort. These appear to be well made and will hopefully last a long time. I like getting 2 of them because is seems like I am always needing a spare and I feel like I am getting good value for the price and they came with everything I need to install them.
