1. Squint to see through a small hole poked with your finger. It works similarly to a hole blocker, blocking light from passing through the outside of the eye lens
2. Tilt the handle at an angle to move the hole away from the line of sight, correcting the refractive error through the lens. This can be used to distinguish visual defects caused by refractive error from those caused by other problems

This is PERFECT for using a pinhole as an optometrist. Patients are often confused by other pinhole methods & this one is very easy to understand.
