We live in a home where the bedrooms are very high off the ground. This ladder offers a small bit of peace of mind but I still hope we never have to use it. We fit it into a small storage ottoman right next to our window. The frame is heavy while still being maneuverable. It looks nice and appears to be easy to use. We didn't climb down it but went through the motions of using it to know how it works. The slats are about the same size as a ladder rung. It's better than the alternative should you have to use it. The top handle frame is super sturdy and I like how it extends out side too for extra grip once you get out of the window

This one-time (recommended) use escape ladder is an important tool for any home owner or renter who lives on the second floor. Deployment of the ladder is easy; place the adjustable handle/anchor over the window ledge, toss it out the window, pull the velcro strap to release the 12 aluminum planks.Get it for peace of mind, just in case you and your family need to make a quick exit from the second floor cause of fire or an intruder.The downside of the safety ladder are 1. there are sharp edges on the foot planks - the vendor do warn about possible damages to person and property when the ladder is deployed, 2. the planks can be slippery - so caution when descending.
