Bachmann $55 DCC turnouts (switches) come with too weak of a pin (rod) to keep tracks derailing or make the switch function properly. Cut the new rod 1" 5/8, remove existing rod with pliers, drill slightly larger hole with tiny awl or tiny jewelers drill, get hot glue gun. Adjust to taste. Need wire cutters.

I needed a thin piece of metal, strong enough to support a balloon but flexible enough to not break. Spring steel does the trick.

I needed spring wire that I could bend for a melodeon (organ not accordian) and these worked great to replace weak springs.

They are spring steel. Not the best in the world, but these must have reasonable carbon content as I was able to anneal, shape, and then re-harden. They will work well for my purposes.
