I didn't buy this rosin for violin playing... rather I bought it to melt it down with a like amount of Beeswax to create superior wax for linen thread for hand sewing leather goods. If you are looking for a review about stringed instruments, this is not it. If you are looking for how well this worked out to wax thread, this is your review. I melted everything down and poured it into a mixing cup and let it cool and harden again. I got it out of the mixing cup and waxed some linen 5 cord and it worked great, way better than Beeswax by itself. It stays on the thread longer, it is easier to get it on the thread in the first place. It was perfect.

I am new to bowed instruments, so imagine my surprise when my bow showed up and I couldn't get anything to make sound.After chatting with a buddy who uses stringed instruments, he asked what Rosin I was using...Well, I can say that I am using this rosin, and I am pretty sure that a 2 pack is going to be a generational pack, I can't even see myself using a single full pack within 5-10 years.It works like a champ on my bow, even if it takes a while to get a proper build up. I'll chalk that up to inexperience.I can't give you an expert recommendation as I play synths, but I can say that I am now getting the results I was hoping for after applying this to my bow. I'd say it's worth it from my perspective.

I like the way this rosin is packaged — it makes a fine present out of a perfectly practical item to give a violinist friend. I myself play a bowed dulcimer, with a folk-instrument bow, and I don’t rosin it nearly frequently enough. At first the rosin didn’t seem to do much for my scratchy sound, but then I remembered you need to rough up the surface of rosin, which I did with the fine surface of a cheese grater from the kitchen. Now it worked just fine, and my perfectly-tuned, amateurishly-played dulcimer sang out with folk tunes and Christmas carols as I wished. This rosin is described as “low dust,’ which made me concerned that there was a trade-off in quality, but as far as I can tell, there is no concern.

I am not a rosin aficionado, so I don’t know the fine details of the product, but I found this two pack of rosin fit my needs. The rosin block is easy to hold and it is decent sized. It does as well as other rosins I have purchased for our daughter’s violin bow in the past.

It's always a gamble when you order economy rosins, and I prefer dark rosins. However, these looked nice at the price point, so I decided to try this product.When the rosins arrived, I examined them. They are slightly smaller than many higher-end products, but I really like their metal storage tins and plastic bases. The cans are much handier than cardboard boxes, and the plastic bases make the cakes easy to handle inside their dust wraps. However, the measure of a rosin is how well it works when applied to a bow. Therefore, I tested it.The first step is to scuff the rosin. Using a spare, clean piece of 220 sandpaper, I roughed the surface as you should before the first use. Then, I selected a brand-new, decent bow. The hair was clean, so the test would accurately reflect this rosin's characteristics when used. After a few passes, I noticed the hair started to stiffen. This was good; I could feel the rosin was doing its job. I gave the new bow twenty more passes than usual to ensure playability. This has to be done for a new bow. Then, it was time to play.I selected a nice fiddle and played a few tunes. The bow had a few weak spots, which I corrected with two more passes with the rosin cake. Then, I played again.No further action was necessary. The new bow was ready, and the rosin performed well. It was not "dusty," and I liked it! For the money, this is great rosin. It might not be boutique, high-end rosin cake, but for the average player, it's fine.Recommended for students and fiddlers.

My son plays Violin in the school orchestra and This came in a 2 pack so he keeps one in his case and one in his music room for back up. he says he likes these the best and that they are easy to hold and doesn't make a mess.
