What it is supposed to. I like the size in my canner and it lays flat well between 2 layers of jars.

Right now, I'm using these in a stock pot to provide a surface for glass bottles to rest on. They are the right size. They also fit my pressure canner, but I haven't used them in that yet. The 3 pack is nice for when you want to do multiple layers of shorter jars in one round.
