When I anchor in water deeper than 35' it becomes difficult to get the chain onto the windlass gypsy, when I reach the rope to chain transition. I have 125' of chain, so however deep the water is, that's how much chain I have to lift.To one hook I've tied 18" of rope. When all my anchor rope is in, I hook this into chain and tie it off to a cleat. The second hook has 5' of rope tied to it, I hook it into the chain farther down, wrap its rope around the windlass and pull the chain in about 3', which gives me enough slack to drape the chain over the gypsy. I can then untie the rope on the first hook and the windlass does the rest for me.It saves me from putting my hands on the filthy chain, with mud from the bottom all over it, and then from having to lift it from an extended position, the windlass motor does all the work.

These hooks worked perfectly for hoisting up a heater I installed inside my shop.

All and all these are fairly decent hooks. The only reason I removed 1 Star is because they were a little tight trying to get them on a 5/16 chain. I had to touch them up with a file. Other than that they work perfectly.

I had lost the hooks from a log chain I've had for 30 years, bought these and now get to abuse it again.
