Bought this to mount to my trail rig for cb. I've had it for several years now and here's what I think. It does require a little tuning out of the box, but that is no big deal. Hook up your meter, take a few readings, peel back the cap and cut down to the wire. Remove a little at a time while checking SWR until you hit a sweet spot. I can't remember exactly but I took off 1/4" at a time until I got maybe 1.5 inches trimmed (wire length, not length on the stick! Maybe 1 or 2 wraps). Done. Swr showed around 1.3 at best dip on swr meter before I wasn't sure about taking more off. Good enough! Probably wouldn't have had to trim so much if I didn't use a spring. I got a VNA after having this thing for a while and have been able to more finely tune it to about 1.2-1.3 on 1 & 40 with the dip at 20 being around 1.1. Thinking about buying another for my 10m mobile since it advertises being tuned for 26 to 29.5 Mhz.As a trail antenna I love this thing. Mounted on a quality spring I have bent this thing all over the place with absolutely no issues. Like severe bending at angles greater than 45 degrees, slapping into trees and hanging up on stuff, I have never even damaged it. My tail rig is an old body style f250 and it doesn't fit nicely down a lot of jeep or sxs trails without hitting stuff. If this thing was flimsy it wouldn't have lasted a single day. This is a tall antenna, that's what you want for reception and tx. I suppose a fire stick with a tuner tip is easier to tune, but it still requires a meter.

NOTE! As it ships, it is tuned long, and WILL ALMOST CERTAINLY DAMAGE YOUR RADIO if used without tuning. SWR was well over 6 after mounting and installing. After you install the antenna, run feed line, etc, you must remove the red cap on top of the antenna. This will expose a copper wire. Pull the wire out and trim it shorter, using an antenna analyzer, to get it as close to 1:1 as possible. At least under 3 (2.5 to be safe) to prevent damaging your radio. trim and check reading in small increments, as over-trimming can cause the SWR to go back up.I was able to get the SWR down to 1.8 on 27.185 Mhz, and did not need to add any additional grounding beyond the Comet no-drill mount I'm using. This antenna has worked just fine, particularly considering its price.Down voting one star, only because it really should come with instructions, or at least have them associated with the product on the website.

I got this antenna thinking I ordered a Firestick. I hooked it up to my antenna analyzer to see where it was in the band. To my surprise, it was very well tuned for the CB band! I did not need to make any adjustments. I did take the red cap off to make sure it was tunable and the thin copper wire did appear to be accessible in case it needed trimmed. Very pleased with this antenna.

Honestly this antenna is not that bad. I actually like how flimsy it is. I have hit many branches with it and it holds up nicely. When I installed it, the SWR showed a 1.1 at 26.100 MHz to 26.240 MHz. I had to take the cap off and trim back some of the tubing so I could shorten the coiled wire. After trimming the wire back and many tests later I found that it tuned up very nice at 27.205 MHz. (CB channel 20). Ch 40 1.4 SWR. Ch 20 1.1SWR Channel 1 1.3 SWR. That’s good for a CB antenna... really good. I would recommend this antenna if ONLY you know how to and have access to an antenna analyzer. This does not work without adjustment. You will destroy your CB if you do not make this antenna resonant with CB frequencies. I’m other words, this antenna is not plug and play.

I ordered this antenna for my new CB radio, for my auto. After installing, I could not get the SWR's below 4.5I tried everything including adding ground straps to everywhere on my vehicle but to no avail.I finally decided to buy a different brand antenna. After installing the new antenna, the SWR's set perfectly within 10 minutes!Do not buy this antenna for your CB radio !

Had to peel some of the plastic off and shorten the coil to get the SWR below 2 on the CB channels.
