Ratchet Stop

Measuring force device:

Measuring force device is used to drive spindle and ensure measuring the force of the measure face invariable, acquire precise measuring results.

Ratchet stop:

Normal micrometers have ratchet stop.

Notices when measuring workpiece by ratchet stop:

  • Make measuring faces of anvils, workpiece and spindle touched each other by rotating spindle.
  • Rotate the driving cap two or three rounds by two or three fingers.
  • Read measuring value.

Ratchet friction thimble or Friction thimble:

Ratchet friction thimble or friction thimble supply measuring force by the improved inner structure of the thimble.

Comparing with ratchet stop, ratchet friction thimble and friction thimble have no axial impact, their measuring forces are more stable and their large thimble is easy for handing. So measurement is seldom interfered with by a man-induced factor when using ratchet friction thimble or friction thimble. And they are easy to be used by one hand and recommended to be used to get precise measuring results.

Sleeve, Thimble: Read measuring result by scale line in sleeve and graduation line in thimble.

zero setting

Zero Setting

Before the operation, clean measuring faces of the anvil and the spindle with a soft cloth or soft paper. Then bring them together carefully by turning the ratchet stop. If the line marked “0” on the thimble does not coincide with the reference line on the sleeve, adjust zero position in the following manners:

  1. Deviation within ±0.02mm: Lock the spindle by the locking device then adjust the sleeve with a spanner until the reference line comes exactly in line with the “0” line on the thimble.
  2. Deviation over ±0.02mm: Lock the spindle by the locking device and lose the ratchet stop by a spanner. Pressing the thimble to the ratchet stop bring it so that the “0” line coincides with the reference line on the sleeve. Fasten ratchet stop and make the final adjustment. If necessary, in the former way.

Product is EXACTLY what I wanted - at a great price - and delivered quickly. I'd give it 6 stars if I could.

I bought the micrometer for my home shop. I had to return the first one, as it wouldn't zero repeatedly. The replacement has worked without issue. I really like Starrett metrology tools, but I couldn't justify the cost for my hobby shop. I'm satisfied with it's performance.

3 star because I returned it to get the proper one I needed. Nothing wrong, just not what I thought I needed.

I'm not a tool snob, but I don't mess with junk tools either. I have several metal lathe tools from Accusize and have very pleased with them. When I needed a 1-2" mic I decided to give these a try instead of spending 3+ times the cost for Starret or Mitutoyo. Those companies make excellent tools, but they do charge a premium for them. I only need these 1-2" mics rarely so I didn't invest in the premium brand tools this time like I normally would have. And I was not disappointed. These came in a nice little case and were more than precise enough for what I needed. If I need another oddball size micrometer, I'll go with Accusize again.

Bought a 0-1” for engine building, piston rings, shims etc. After reading reviews that say it could have debris in it from the factory I took it apart, cleaned and oiled it. It seems to be pretty consistent and accurate enough for what I need. It’s not a high end tool so cannot be compared to a Starrett or Mitutoyo but for the money it’s great value for what it can do.

Nice feel, smooth operation, does the job for a fraction of the cost of big-name offerings. Have used Mitutoyo and Starrett at work for years, just was not ready to pay their prices for hobby/home use.

Buy with confidence. Gets the job done and is accurate. Only improvement is thickener insulator so you have better grip without heating it up.

I have the following 0 to 1 inch micrometers in addition to the Accusize- Fowler 52-224-001 Inch Digit Outside Micrometer, 0-1"- Mitutoyo 293-340-30 Digital Micrometer, Inch/Metric, Ratchet Thimble, 0-1"- Starrett T444.1XRL-1I received the Starrett as a gift and I purchased the others on Amazon (USA and Canada). All of these micrometers agree with the Accusize to within 1/10 of a thousandth of an inch in measurements I made on an aluminum block I used to compare them. I expected them to agree even with the large price differences. When I received the Accusize, it was covered in a sticky substance and had to be cleaned with WD40. I took the Accusize micrometer apart to clean it inside and out, and I noticed that it had a 1/4 inch long metal chip inside of it. This chip looked like it was from a machining process. I removed the chip, I oiled the micrometer, I reassembled it, and I ensured that the micrometer zeroed-out properly.I was disappointed that I had to do this, and expected to be able to use the Accusize right out of the box. I suppose that this would have been theoretically possible; however, the cleaning was needed and this revealed the chip inside of the device. Now that it is cleaned, its a nice device. It moves smoothly and freely, and it provides results that match other more expensive micrometers. From what I can see, the Accusize is a good purchase because of the price; however, be prepared to clean the micrometer thoroughly, to oil it, and to re-zero it prior to use.

I really love this mic. Dead on accurate. Beautiful finish and colors, especially considering the price. I reach for this one more often than I do my two other more expensive mics. I did have to reset it to zero when I got it because it was just shy of zero, barely by anything really you had to get close to notice. I also had to do the same to a Starrett mic I ordered at the same time so maybe that's just normal when you by a new one. It's so easy to do anyway its not a problem. This mic rivals higher end mics in accuracy and in finish too, would definitely recommend!
