I bought one of these a year ago. The first one I ordered stopped working after a day. Having Prime, I sent it back free of charge and replaced it with another. The replacement has worked perfectly for over a year. To do some additional video recording at 2 different locations, I recently ordered 2 more. One of the 2 were bad... sent it back to Amazon, got a replacement that works fine. While you may get a bad one... the trouble in sending it back for a replacement is worth it. 1920 x 1280 resolution easy; and an easy to see green/red light indicating the status of standby or record. Captured audio is recorded a little low, so while I'm processing the captured video, I set the software to normalize the audio level. When recording longer video, the device breaks what's captured into 2 Gb sized files. The included software enables the split files to be joined, trimmed, etc. This is a basic unit that gets the job done and is very easy to use. I ordered a similar device a year ago and sent it back because it had too many bells and whistles on it... making it difficult to understand/use and really unnecessary, as everything it could do could be done better using video editing software. As I own 3 of them, goes without saying that I like the hell out of them and is one of my favorite items I've ordered off of Amazon.

Bought this to record component video sources, what I was sent can only record composite and HDMI. Works great for both but I needed it to record component and it's completely incapable. The storefront claimed it was a mixup. However, the product page here clearly mentions YpBpR video. Even the sticker on the box it came in mentions YpBpR video. I think they're knowingly shipping out cheaper units to turn a better profit. They told me I could ship it back for a refund, which I'd sooner not do. That's money out of my pocket explicitly because of this manufacturer's garbage business practices. When I reached out they didn't even offer to replace it. Don't buy this if you want to record component, there's no telling what you'll actually receive.

It's worked very well. I have all the major consoles and so far it hasn't given me any trouble with them, and it even picks up signal from a converter I use to record from.older consoles. The way it records is simple and convenient. Plug in a USB-capable hard drive or even a thumb drive and it'll drop 15-minute chunks of mp4. The only problem Ive had is that it slightly distorts the picture when I play some games on ps3. It's a good price for a beginning unit, but I'll upgrade when I have the cash.

The upside is the device records video very well, and to thumb drives (No PC needed). Video files are created seamlessly (no dropped frames when starting a new file), but there does appear to be about a 2 frame break in the audio each time a new file is created. A typical hour-long video recording session creates about 4-5 sequentially numbered files. My experience is in using the HDMI option, so I can't say specifically how component video works on the unit. My assumption is the issues are similar. There is no way to rename files - it just increments each file by 1. An extended recording session will end up with multiple files being X, X_1, X_2, X_3, etc., where X is the overall recording session number. Each time you start a new recording (i.e., each time you press the record button), the file number (X) increments by one digit. There is no way to set a date/time, which may or may not be important for you, depending on your situation. It automatically creates a new file every 2GB or so and depending on the complexity of the video, this may be 15-25 minutes of content. It sounds a lot more complex than it really is in use and other than file management long term, it's workable, although a pain.Be sure to format your recording thumb drives for FAT32 - exFAT WILL NOT work. I learned this the hard way. I was using 128GB thumb drives (USB 3.0) with FAT32 formatting and they recorded well. Supposedly hard drives will work as well, and NTFS will work, but with occasional problems...use FAT32 is my, and AGPteEK's recommendation. In any case, the exFAT format should be avoided. There are some serious downsides that are not apparent from the product description here on Amazon. The biggest issue/problem (for me anyway) is audio input. Not clear, until I actually tried using the units, is that when using HDMI input, the units will ONLY accept Mic level (no line-level input with HDMI), and will NOT allow you to monitor via headsets (line out). The only way to make sure you are recording audio correctly is to stop the recording and playback the recording on a laptop or something.Apparently, you have to use the component input to access the line in/line out functions, but component use went untested by me. It MAY allow for monitoring audio via the line out, but I can't say.For many end-users, the audio drawbacks of the device may be of no consequence. However, I was trying to record classroom PPT presentations via HDMI from a laptop, while feeding line level out of a simple mic mixer to the device (most mixers are designed to deliver line-level output). Again, while it does have both line-level and mic-level inputs (and line/headset level outputs labeled as such), ONLY mic-level input is available when recording using HDMI (with no line out to monitor), while line-level input is available to use ONLY when using component video. The price point is good, and for many 'casual' end-users this unit may be fine, but for my purposes, these units did not work out well. I was hoping for an inexpensive solution for my PPT/audio recording needs but, unfortunately, this wasn't it.My recommendation is to somehow get hold of the manual for the unit and read it carefully beforehand. Understand that, even then, the manual is a bit hard to understand. I received paper manuals with the units, but AGPtEK's website doesn't list these units - or at least I couldn't find it there - and I had no luck locating a manual on Google.AGPtEK does have a similar unit, which only has a mic input, which is also sold on Amazon for about $10 less. In any case, as is the case of a lot of the 'low end' electronics, "your mileage may vary".

I use this to capture from an older HDV camera. It's just easier that trying to work with the old Firewire connection. As a plus, the resolution is at full HD vs. a compressed HD from firewire. The quality is acceptable, for the price point though, it is excellent.Very happy with this.Negatives:Timestamps, I can't figure out how to set the date/timeUSB drives must be FAT32, exFat not supported, Win10 doesn't format FAT32 for large drive anymore.

Love this little unit, recording like crazy since yesterday, tried similar device and even could not record HDMI, flawless recording through HDMI, tried with Mac and digital content via HDMI, video bitrate is 4800, great quality as had to reduce by software to have smaller size, tried with flash card, must be formatted as FAT32 which has max 2GB file limit, no problem at all with missing frames or latency, flash was USB2, only Audio was a bit lower than source but that could be easily fixed, very easy to work with, recommend it

Could have better in box instructions but everything is explained on the product details page so unless you're really stupid, you'll have no problems with this. Awesome price and seems to be built well. The only downside I can think of is there doesnt seem to be any way of turning it off outside of unplugging it but that's not enough to warrant deducting a star considering the price.
