This was a replacement, so I'll review both. We purchased to distill water only. The first one imparted a metallic taste that we could not eliminate, even following the mfg's cleaning instructions. The Thumper pot developed pitting on the inside, not sure the cause. We returned and replaced. The quality on the replacement is poor. The parts are thinner, noticeably! It required more fitting and adjusting to make this unit seal. It makes me think they were told to cut manufacturing costs, and it is evident in the quality of the unit. I would have been pleased with the first if it would have been safe to use. The replacement tells me to stay away from this product. If you purchase one of these, you need to make sure to disassemble and clean thoroughly. To make these pots shine, they use a buffing compound. It removes the metal, and turns the compound black. As you look in the edges, where the metal is folded or sharp corners, you can see this residual compound. Take a thin white knit fabric (t-shirt) and wipe, pressing it with your fingernail. We were able to get significant amounts using paper towels (more than we wanted in our drinking water). Just be aware of this and clean thoroughly. It is difficult to see because it is forced into the crevices.

The lids seal nicely and the pots are of a good quality. PLEASE, DO NOT USE AS IS FOR ANYTHING CONSUMABLE!!! All of the fittings are brass! I will be adjusting this setup to eliminate all the brass and replace them with COPPER fittings since I am happy with the way the lids seal and it being such a compact unit.

Missing 1 of the copper connections and it’s useless without it

I like it, it holds up well on a propane heater, keeps the heat in well and seals up nicely. The only downside, in my eyes, is that the thermometer only goes in about 2 inches, which really limits on how well you can tell the temp of the liquid. With that being said, I ordered a 9" long thermometer (the depth is about 10 3/4 to 11", will have to drill the hole from 1/4" npt to a 1/2" npt, which is no issue. That way, a better accurate temp is giving during the heating portion, as different liquid will boil at different temps. All in all, it's not bad, it's well build, holds up to flames pretty well.
