It's too wide and thick to fit in my pack, but this mat is going with me everywhere I hike! As a side-sleeper, I often partially roll off the more narrow pads, resulting in cold spots or other discomfort. This mat keeps under me regardless of my tossing and turning in the night, and is thicker than my other closed-cell mats, so offers superior comfort after a long day on the trail. Unless you're sporting a 90L pack, you'll want to pick up a couple of bungees or some paracord to attach this to the outside of your pack, but you'll never regret having this mat with you.

I can't say whether this would be comfortable all on its own, but it is a pretty soft dense foam, and is better than a rocky ground.I purchased it to go under my Klymit air mattress, giving it some added protection and smoothing out any jagged rocks. It is a very large pad, but super light. Not sure it I'd use this for backpacking, but for car camping it is going with me every time.As others have said, it has a strong chemical odor, but it will dissipate if you unroll and air it out.

I read a few reviews that mentioned a strong chemical odor from the mat, my mat had a slight odor but it's nothing significant. I purchased this mat to use for a 5 day camping trip, I will inside a tent at a designated spot when I sleep, It's probably too large to bring backpacking.Pros:Size, the XL625 fills out the bottom of most my Teton XXL Sleeping Bag nicely (minus about 5 inches on each side).Foam, it's dense, I like its firmness.Weight, it only weights 20 ouncesCost, as far as I can tell this mat is the best bang for your buck camping mat on Amazon.Cons:Thickness. While this mat is probably thick enough to make camping on the ground more endurable ALPS has two thickness options for their mats, this mat is of the thinner variety and a thicker option is not available.Durability, this mat would benefit from a tougher outer coating that would make it less susceptible to punctures. I will be stitching together a case for mine.Dirt and Hair, the texture of this mat grips dirt and hair making it difficult to wipe clean. Some sort of coating that boosted durability and made it less sticky would make it much better. When I purchased this mat there was no size chart on the Amazon page, I tracked the chart down on ALPS website, it's posted below:Model: Item #: Size: Weight: Price: (according to ALPS)Regular 375 7551007 20" x 72" x 3/8" 9 oz. $19.99Regular 625 7552011 20" x 72" x 5/8" 16 oz. $29.99Regular 750 7552999 20" x 72" x 3/4" 21 oz. $34.99Large 625 7553011 25" x 77" x 5/8" 18 oz. $34.99Large 750 7553999 25" x 77" x 3/4" 29 oz. $44.99XL 625 7554011 30" x 77" x 5/8" 20 oz. $44.99

I don't see how this product could be made any better. I ordered the XL 625. I am 5' 7, 250 pounds with very broad shoulders. Wide enough for me on my back and just wide enough if I lay on my stomach and bend my leg like I do quite a bit. It is 3/4 inches thick, very dense and yet shows some "memory" type to it. If I stand on it and remove my foot, I see a slight imprint that springs back. It's more than long enough to keep the top rolled up and use as a pillow. I think if you are small or petite, the Regular 625 would be sufficient.

As a big guy this fits me perfectly, I'm 6 foot 3, 230 lbs and this gives me a slight inch of extra space on my sides. My only problem with the extra width of course is how to attach this thing to my backpack. What concerns me though is the material is soft and comfortable but you can just feel this would get torn apart by any branches that might catch on to this. That being said they should offer a rip proof cover for this and that would make it a 5, star for me.

Great closed cell foam pad for extra comfort under my ThermaRest....This is my second one. I was taught by my Dad that it's worth carrying a little extra weight to ensure a good nights sleep out in the bush. It's especially effective in colder climates when used on top of some Reflectex.(car sunblock material-reflects body heat back to you !) It's also the only mat I've ever found at 30 inches wide, which fits my old 30 inch ThermaRest. It is a bit bulky when paired with my pad, but I just carry it on top of my pack, and don't really notice. You do have to be careful handling it..it is a little softer than normal (not like the military hard ones) and will scratch easily if you drag it across something sharp. I retired my old one because it was beat up, but that never affected it's performance...just looked like hell..lolSummary; It's thick, comfortable...a bit bulky, but worth it !!

Used this as an underlayment under the playing area for my poker table. Works great, stays in place, limits (but does not eliminate) chip bounce, etc.Not sure where the comments on the smell come from as any smells dissipate within a day or so.Good product.

el tapete es bastante gruesso lo que lo hace comodo en usar, pro si ocupa mucho espacio y si quieres cambinar mucho para acampar y llevar de mas cosas, te ve estar ocupando gran espacio de tu capacidad de cargar

The material is not resistant at all. I've used this mat about 4 times, gently and only indoors, during the 10 months since I purchased it. There're quite a few rips already. Also when I received the mat, it was covered with dust all over. Very disappointed. Doesn't worth the money.

es cómodo pero se tiene que ser cuidadoso porque se maltrata con facilidad
