I've always used the trusty old 6-incher. but it left me feeling a little wanting at times. When you need a full 8 inches this is your ruler. Always satisfies.Markings are clear enough and readable - the white-on-black is perfect for visibility.This is my first "centering" ruler - I have since bought another, longer one as well. Don't know how I never heard of these earlier in my life, they're really awesome.

If all you want to do it measure, then this seems like a well made ruler. But as an ink/drawing straight edge without cork or rubber backing, it draws the ink underneath the ruler's edge, so that it smears. So in brief, it is fairly well made, and seems to measure accurately, but it is a poor choice for line drawings, etc.
