I purchased this crusher because it works with both 12 oz and 16 oz cans. So far it works well. I've had best success when placing the can in with the opening on top facing out. Then crush it. While pinching in the sides does reduce the force needed, I've found the cans more likely to pop out when using that method.I mounted a piece of plywood to the wall in a stud. Then screwed the crusher to that. It is very secure this way. I would not recommend using the included screws and mounting it in drywall. I doubt that will last long.

1.) The package arrived (barely) with a thin cardboard box nearly torn open. Be sure to order with Amazon boxing, as the original packaging is not meant for shipping.2.) This is heavy. It is solid, thick steel. White paint will be easy to spray paint any needed touch up.3.) Others in the top 100 Amazon list (check out this list, this is #8 on the Amazon list) complain of the fragility of those rated higher on the list. They're fractionally cheaper, but hey: you are using your full body weight in a controlled manner to crush the cans, so beefy is NECESSARY.4.) How did I use it? I created a production line. I filled up a 50 gallon trash can about 60% of the way before I needed a break. I used it horizontally on a kitchen counter, because the height was perfect. I folded a towel underneath to protect the counter. Then, put a pile in front of me...and go!5.) It takes a bit of force to break the 1st crease, followed by an arm action exactly like "arm wrestling." So, a sharp hit is necessary followed by an even application of "arm wrestling."6.) The BAD: About 1 out of every 40 will flip out and land on the floor partially crushed. Why? Because there isn't anything to hold the can when the can crushes in a lopsided manner.7.) The FIX: But if you have a pristine can, then push the can under the side lip, which seems to hold the can in place. But for partially crushed cans, the cans tend to slip out once in a while.8.) I don't know how many La Croix sparking water cans were crushed in my 1st use, but it must have been around 500 or so.9.) Highly recommend.10.) Buy it. Buy it now! You will thank me.11.) Caution: If you're lacking arm power, then choose an electric crusher.

works as it should crushes can, only thing keeping me from giving this a 5 star review is the cans move around on the slick surface and sometime shoot out if not held in place. A couple pieces of rubber or a guide to hold cans better would remedy this.

Having fretted over negative's reviews of other "flimsy" can compactors, I decided to add my own positive review of this model after using it, to assure others who might be at a similar decision point. This compactor is well-built, and the shaping of the metal channel parts, as well as the thickness of the metal adds great strength. This model does not feel flimsy. The metal measures proud of 16 gauge for the back, and proud of 14 gauge for the arm. After a month of using it to crush all manner of aluminum cans, it never felt like it was flexing or distorting off-track. The two parts are joined by rivet joints that appear well-made.The internal arm and crushing "anvil" have pivots to ensure that the applied force crushes straight down, to minimize chances of the can "popping out" of the fixture. As expected, a very slight fingertip dent of the can sides will ensure that the can crushes right down. I have sprayed garage door dry lube on the internal channel and at the pivots because it's a good idea. Any general-purpose spray will do here.I have crushed 12oz - 0.5liter cans with ease. The latter are the tallest I have obtained anywhere. Nothing about the crusher accommodates plastic water bottles; no data on them. The shape of the steel in this design makes the tool exceedingly more rigid than any can; it's very easy to smash anything flat with a firm even stroke. Having looked at the others, this model clearly has a better design. I hung it on the wall with three drywall screws to evaluate, although it comes with its own hardware that is much beefier. It works fine. I will swap in the provided hardware.

It is easy to install and included are the screws and plugs for various wall materials. It is sturdier than my older one which had the hinge arms bent over time. This one has a different design and I think it will last much longer due to the design and how it crushes the cans. It fits 16 oz. cans as well.

This was purchased as a replacement to one of the same kind. (It was probably about 30 years old) so I know it is a good sturdy crusher. I have some bad news, I really don't want to give a bad review but the one I purchased has failed after 4 months. The hinge on one side came undone.

It technically works, but I wouldn’t buy again. Cans tend to slide out as you’re trying to crush them

This can crusher is strong and built to last for years. It’s easy to use, fun and safe for the kids to learn about recycling.Crusher was easy to instal, I mounted mine to a board then mounted the board to the wall to give it strength and space to move freely.Tip: the bottom lip that the can sits in can be bent a tiny bit upward to make sure the cans stays in place when crushing.

Was dubious at first but after a month of daily use it works like a charm. Soft drink cans crush up beautifully and to take to the refund centre is way under half the size. Love this item.

Ok so i have owned the flimsy looking ones and believe me they are exactly that flimsy. The handles start to twist fingers can get pinched. So comparing those ti this one huge difference. This one is heavy and very sturdy. Me and my monster togeter did about 40 cans. In about 10 min ( she not a quick loader) way less wasted space. You do need to ancher it sturdy but so worth the extra few bucks i would perchase it again if i had to but i dont think this one will break any time soon.
