I love this mat and did not expect how much I would like the reversible colors. It helps keep a mindset for cutting certain materials or not at all, such as keeping the black side for no cutting. Primarily for x-acto blade work, the cutting/self-healing is barely noticeable but I will wait and see how it holds up over time, which from initial use looks to be years.

I've used this brand of cutting mat for years and they've always worked well. I bought this small size specifically for using while cleaning up 3D prints and it's perfect. Saves the desk from damage but easily moved out of the way when no longer needed. I like that it's double sided and expect it to last a long time.

In terms of what it is this product works great! I need to read up on how to maintain it, but I cut on it a bunch over the weekend and you can hardly tell. Also it works great with my rotary cutter. In terms of what size to get? I picked the 18 x 12 inch version of this purely because of the price. I went back and forth on getting this or the largest mat because I intended on using this for cutting fabric and I knew that I would make cuts longer than 18x12. I got this one figuring that I could just move the mat around. I tried it and yes it is possible to move the mat around, but if I were to do it again I think I would bite the bullet and just get the bigger one. I will probably get the bigger version in the near future. I guess on the plus side if I have to cut something really big I could put them next to each other and have even more cutting space.Also, one review explained that this has a hole in it so that you can hang it up for storage. I think this is a very good idea and just in case you don't see the other review I thought you might find this information helpful.

I received 2 of the 24 x 36 mats as a birthday gift and my cutting table needed a bit more to cover it entirely. I had ordered another brand in what was supposed to be 9 x 12 and the brand was not of the quality of Alvin. These are exactly as described. The 9 x 12 was exactly 9 x 12. I also check that the markings on the mats are exact and the Alvin brand is. Even more impressive, once you line them up side by side, the distance between the markings across the mats is also exactly right. When side by side, the edge marking on one mat is 1 inch distance to the edge marking across to the next. You do need to line up the mats to be the same direction. I set the logo to be in the upper left as each one is laid out on the table. That's a very, very good indication of quality. The other brand was not even 9 x 12 - it was not quite 8 3/4 by 11 and the markings weren't properly spaced meaning they failed the 'ruler' test. I can recommend this brand without any hesitation. I did have to leave the large mats out for a full 24 hours to air out. Note: For those new to cutting mats, the dimensions of cutting mats refers to the overall dimensions and not the lengths that the markings go out to. A 9 x 12 mat will have marking lines for 8 x 11 or should have. I also recommend using a trusted ruler or measuring tape to double check any mats markings to make sure they are true. Thanks to trial and error over the years, I learned not to assume they are.

This was very handy for recent craft project and it was the perfect size, but a bit expensive. The Dollar store has one (purchased also) but needed to be about 1.5 inches smaller all around. Used both though.

I'm an artist who's survived on disposable surfaces (primarily cardboard) to cut for over 10 years. I never did enough cutting with a utility knife & Xacto blades that I felt warranted purchasing a board. Plus, I really didn't have confidence that I'd find something that would actually SELF-HEAL. Both sides of this board do it, and even though I can see some of the lines I made still, wiping my hand over the area feels JUST like the rest of the board. And I've been making sure to rotate the board and flip it so that I'm evenly distributing my cuts. I'm also very pleased with how my Xacto blades remain sharp, how little pressure I need apply when cutting, and how nicely the board grips to a table. I've been putting together a large scrapbook of sorts and I've been doing A LOT of cutting. I've probably trimmed over 2000 items so far... And the board just keeps healing. I noticed the board had a smell immediately after removal from its packaging, but it dissipated in less than a day. I've been using the hanging hole to store the board and is perfectly flat. I'd recommend the board for cutting small pieces. I will eventually purchase other sizes of this board because the QUALITY for the price on Amazon is unbelievable. I debated between several self-healing boards before just "going" for this one because of the other reviews and because of the cost. Get one before they're gone!

I do a lot of packing and and shipping and have always used double layered corrugated cardboard as a cutting mat. The table I cut on is 36"x 84", so the size of the mat is perfect for my setup. From cutting cardboard, foam board, sandwiches, this thing has been amazing. If you are thinking about getting a large cutting mat, this is the one. Price and quality cannot be beaten here. These mats save your blades from dulling at the tip and allow for more accurate cuts. I use this almost every day and will follow up this review in a few months to review its durability. Thumbs up so far!
