I bought this by mistake, I use a drill press to drill my hinge holes, this one has a flat spot on the shank for a set screw. It's only made for hinge boring machines. Amazon is great when it comes to returning things "bought by mistake".

Just wanted future buyers to know this, the first bore we drilled using this bitwe mistakenly drilled through two "drywall screws which would have most likely torn up most other bits but I removed it and took a close look at the carbide tips and it's almost as if haven't been used yet. Amazing quality on this one.

Can't speak to its longevity but it does a good job.

Top performer. Bored 50 holes in bloodwood - a super hard wood - and was still sharp ready to bore 50 more. A non-carbide version only bored 2 holes before becoming completely dull and unable to bore another hole.

This bit made quick work of my cabinet door project. Worth every penny.

I was in Mexico and far from any typical woodworking store but managed to find this bit for 4 cabinet doors I needed to install. I didn't have a drill press nor a jig and I tried to hand-hold this in a normal drill, pushing down as hard as I could. The bit simply wanders off the mark even though it has a center sharp point. It wasn't possible to create accurate cuts with it in the pine scraps I tried it on. Fortunately I was able to find a normal 1-3/8" Forstner bit that I had no trouble using and which worked well with the same Euro-style hinges.
