Used it to cut (12) 3/4 wide x 4†long x 2 1/4†deep mortises using plunge router. It performed well.

I used this as recommended by Soss hinge instructions. It did an excellent job in pine door and jam as well as the particle board core of the door. I wonder if all the negative reviews were from abusive router technique.

Tip broke off after a few uses on oak. Also had plenty of tear out. Stick to whiteside bits.

Because this has only one "tooth", it is not balanced. You will need to slow down your router. Also feed very slowly, for the same reason. I found it works best to plunge a multitude of times to clear out a truly deep hole, and then rout to the outside edges.

Routed 12 holes for Soss hinges. Ran several passes with no problem. Drill a pilot hole and run several passing when routing deep holes like Soss requires.

UPDATE: After more use I have found that there is a plus .003" (or so) diameter difference on the middle (of the 3) carbide faces. No matter what I do I get a channel or stair-step on all vertical faces on all passes. Such a pain to deal with. Side milling chatter is still a big problem and end-milling is terrible, the flex of the steel shaft is just too great. This bit goes in the garbage now... I'm tired of hiding behind something in the shop just in case this cutter explodes.Still true:It can't be seen from pics but this is a 3 flute tool, staggered to provide chip breaking. I wished I could find a solid carbide tool with this cut length, but this tool is made very well and works okay on softwoods.I bought this to use on my industrial CNC router to trim/cut/shape maple furniture parts at full depth... epic FAIL!The high-speed steel shank/body is not rigid enough and chatter is excessive, especially on inside corners. Even very light passes (.3" depth, .1" cut @ 40ips, 16krpm) resulted in tearouts due to chatter at directional changes.I give 4 stars since it is a good bit, though no good for maple.
