We had a massive heron terrorizing our koi. We added in Mr. Alligator and he's done a fantastic job of guarding our pond and keeping the heron away. His tail came off the first day but we clamped it together and he's holding together just fine. It looks good in the pond and worth the $ to protect thousands of dollars in koi.

I bought this item for a themed parade. It would of been perfect for our theme but it was so cheap and designed poorly. Our item came broken as you can see in the first photo. As we inspected more of the item we kept realizing more and more stuff was broken. Started off with the snout being broken then was the clips to clip him together. We had no other option and had to do everything we could to make this alligator work for the parade. I showed a picture of what we had to do to make the alligator work and that wasn’t even then end of it cause then the clip/chain totally came off. I was very sad and disappointed with this item specially because it was not cheap. It was the most expensive alligator for the worst product. I would definitely not recommend to buy.

As others have commented, it’s not like a full sized alligator, but it’s fine for my pond. No clue if it will have any affect on the heron, time will tell. It’s cute and floats and moves like a real alligator. I have it tied to a lotus pot near the waterfall so the water movement has it moving back and forth. It’s worth the money IMO.

Being in southern California, I never believed that west coast birds would even know they should be scared of alligators. But, sure enough, they don't visit our yard any more.We have a large in-ground pool and all sorts of birds would land around the edge of the pool and on the pool & patio furntiure. Every weekend we would have to spend about 30 minutes scrubbing bird do-do off of EVERYTHING in the back yard, including the hard-scape. The stuff was everywhere.10 minutes after putting our new gator in our pool, the problem was solved...for the entire yard! We just hoped it would keep the birds off the edge of the pool, but it keeps them out of the entire back yard. And our yard is pretty big! The only birds that still visit frequently are humming birds that feast on our hibiscus flowers, and a pair of doves that nest under our balcony every summer. That's it. No more poop scrubbing on weekends!We've had it in the pool constantly for 2 months and it is holding up reasonably well. We did go away on vacation and came back to find his tail section disconnected (broken away by an open chain link). But, we're pretty sure that our house-sitter tried to pull him out of the pool filter "cave" and he got caught on the filter basket--and she pulled. Easy fix though. Two minutes with needle-nose pliers and he was back on duty.Well worth the money. We are going to buy another one as a spare--just in case.

UPDATE: we bought a 2nd one, because the first one was pretty worn out after 1 year in the pond; not built to last (see photo). The quality seemed better on the 2nd one, but the heron are not afraid of this one at all! The SOB just took off with a belly full of 8 of my fish! I’m disappointed to say the least!This gator is so perfect! The size is perfect at roughly 2.5', and it looks quite realistic. It moves around enough to trick all the heron that have been terrorizing our fish. Now I just need to find them a therapist, so they can get other the loss of all their buddies! Minus one because I had to caulk around the eye-hooks to avoid leakage.

This is probably the smallest alligator you will ever see. I've held live ones about this size in alligator farms. It may be cute in your bathtub, but even in a small pond it's lost. And it doesn't scare anyone or anything because its just too small. I've read elsewhere that common "wood ducks" do not fear alligators, so that's something else to consider, even if it were big enough. Some comments I've read have been about leaks or LED eyes, and those are *NOT* about this item because it's quite solid and has no LED eyes. But it IS very small....very, very small. In the past, I've used owls mounted on PVC pipe so they moved in the wind. They worked very well to prevent woodpecker damage to my house - but I needed one on every side. "Out of sight, out of mind." For my current situation, I've now bought a hawk, and it seems to be working. I'm going to get another variation of the hawk. The key is to make sure they move about a bit. But the alligator has done no good at all.

The box shouldnt say it doesnt fade because they do and the flimsy chains that hold the head body and tail together dont last long

A bit smaller than I really wanted and I wish I had seen the light up eye version first. Otherwise, perfect for a Halloween display I'm putting together. Looks really good floating.
