1, Choose the suitable grade file or rasp to sharpening your material, do not try to file hardened steel with a (hardened steel) file; you will quickly ruin the file;
2, Clean out any bits of file metal with a stiff wire brush after you finish your work;
3, Chalk/oil/lard the file: rub a small amount of lard/oil into the teeth of the file to:
1) Make cutting easier from the loss of friction of metal on metal
2) Remove the chance of having pins form and stick in the teeth
3) Keep the metal dust down making cleanup and breathing much easier
4) Rust protection on the piece and the file itself.
4, If using Lard or Oil, don’t forget if you need to do work that requires the surface to be clean of it.

Nice set. I have used the medium and fine and they seem fine. Only time will tell if the temper is correct, but initially all seems good.

I started using this file set the very day that they arrived. I found them to be very hard and very effective. Any really hardened steel will tend to be brittle. The smaller files can break if you apply to much unsupported pressure. I place a finger on top of the file blade when using the 'precision' files to give added support, and they have been excellent.I have used this set on plastic, wood, and metal, and they have performed very well. So I am pretty pleased.I think this is a good set if you are careful with the smaller files.

Very fast delivery! Altho' I have not had the opportunity to use the files, it appears to be comfortable to hold & use. I trust it will have a al very useful long life.

They do the job. You get what you pay for but no complaints here. The case they come in is super cheapo but the files are fine.

The fine grade file still had rust on the surface. I returned it at the first time but it came with rust again. Other files arw good condition.

Fantastic files. I bought these to re-profile an axe blade and they did not disappoint. Managed to make the blade sharp enough to shave hair with just this set of files without moving on to stones. Solid handles, excellent cutting ability, highly recommended for the money
