I have been running this Distributor in my CJ5 for 5 months now and it’s operated flawlessly. It’s built strong, looks nice and easy to install. Took about half hour to install, run the power wire and run the plug wires and it was running. Quick check with the timing light and I was within a degree of where I wanted it. I noticed a smooth idle right on start up. I would definitely buy another if I ever buy another.

1979 CJ7 258 - Removed old Distributor, wires, coil, ICM and replaced it with this Red Cap A-Team HEI yesterday. Took all of 1 hour. Things to note: this distributor doesn't have a "gasket", so lube the o-ring and the cam gear before installing. I didn't swap the old cam gear, as virtually everyone who has actually installed an HEI stated that the cam gear gets chewed only on the V8's. Of course, replaced spark plug wires with HEI wires (you have to), and re-gap'd my plugs to .044. Ran a wire from the ICM red wire w/white tracer to the pigtail on the distributor. Fired right up, and set the timing to 9 degrees BTDC. Smooth running. Now, the kicker: once I put the vacuum line on the distributor, it ran like crap. So, took it back off, plugged the vacuum line and the distributor port, and it runs fantastic. It does advance when you rev the idle, and it performs absolutely great plugged. I replaced the entire exhaust last weekend with a Thrush glass pack, and coupled with this distributor, I feel like a 7-10hp increase in performance, no more choppy idle, and (hopefully) better fuel mileage. We'll see.

Fit perfectly on my 1981 Jeep CJ7 258 CID engine. It was a replacement for the original Ford Style. Seems to be a Billet housing and not cast aluminum. So far works as designed. May need some tuning for perfect performance.

I installed the product in my modified 1971 jeep/am general dj-5 and it runs fine especially after recurving the mech advance to match my rpm range, that being said i would think that a note about vacuum advance hook up port on the carb as my ol carter isnt compatible with "chevy" type dist. This is the 2nd dist ive installed from a-team performance and well made and easy to use. I solved my issue when i recurved my and locked my vac advance, and thus far runs great and cant wait to test it offroad hard.

The distributor looked great, fit like it should, and my Jeep started right up, but timing was impossible to set. Engine had a definite miss on two cylinders and would not rev up. Not sure if the issue was the coil, pickup, or ignition module. End result was to reinstall the original ignition system and the Jeep is running great again. I believe that with proper component and assembly level testing and validation this product will be great.
