This is such a fun project and a great gift idea! Great packaging, shipped quickly, arrived quickly. The product package is attractive and the instructions are so easy to follow. I absolutely love the jar it came in, it is large and sturdy and looks great. This was a quick and easy project that is perfect for kids or anyone who wants to grow a sunflower without all the hassle of buying separate supplies. I can't wait to see this grow!

I thought it would be a really good idea to get some of these for Christmas presents. So I bought 5 kits. Three Sunflowers, one Chili Peppers and one Shishito Peppers. I kept the one sunflower for myself and gave the others as gifts.My daughter-in-law started her sunflowers first. Four of the five seeds germinated and the little plants got to be about 1 inch tall. The jar was in a nice sunny window. Then the plants died!I started my sunflowers and four of the five seeds germinated. I was so excited! The jar was under a plant light for 12 hours a day. They got to be about ½ tall and that was all they grew. They started to look sickly and then died only 12 days after planting. There were some extra seeds in the packet so I tried again. Three of the five seeds germinated and then they died too! Very disappointing.My son had the two pepper kits. His plants were under a plant light 12 hours a day. His Chili Peppers never germinated. His Shishito Peppers are growing.On January 23, 2021, I emailed alexandnik@backtotheroots.com which was the email address listed in the kit. They said, “If you have any questions (or need a return/replacement), reach out to us directly – we’re happy to help!â€I attached two photos showing the germinated seeds and then what they looked like after 5 days. I asked what they would recommend I should do to help the sunflowers grow. I had followed their directions exactly.I also asked if they could send a replacement set of sunflower seeds to my daughter-in-law and sunflower and chili seeds to myself and son. I never got an email back from them answering my questions. I did receive a ‘canned’ email on January 27, 2021 saying that they were sending sunflower seeds to my daughter-in-law and chili seeds to my son.I then sent another email back to the same email address on January 27, 2021 asking if they could send me sunflower seeds. I heard nothing back.I received an email from Jack Wilson saying, “Thanks so much for letting us know. We've got seeds on the way, orders number 89834 (for the sunflower seeds) and 89833 (for chili seeds). If there's anything else we can do just let us know!†I emailed him back thanking him for sending two of the three requested seeds. I forwarded him the same email I sent to the other email address which explained everything we had done. I also said it looked like I was not sent sunflower seeds. I never heard back from Jack!It all looked like a great idea, but from our experience, the seed jar kits don’t produce the plants that they advertise. The customer service team is not responsive even though they indicate that they are there to help, they don’t!

This is a great kit that I would recommend for those who don't have easy access to seeds and dirt, and want an effortless fun way to grow. It's a great educational tool for children, and a way to inspire them to plant more. For those who plant regularly and have access to seeds and dirt, this kit might be a disappointment as the box includes only a jar of dirt and seeds with instructions. The instructions are easy to read and follow. The glass jar is nice and large. I would recommend the company puts a label on the jar in case the consumer get multiple planters and wants to keep track of which are which.

Love having a "project" like this in my kitchen window in the winter. I had an issue with some of the bottom leaves yellowing. BacktoRoots customer service answered me almost immediately with suggestions.

I bought this for myself to see if it would be something that young children would enjoy getting as a gift.It came well packaged, and in excellent condition when I took it out of the box. It gave me everything I need to start some sunflower seeds. The directions are very clear and concise. What I like about this the most is that you can actually see the seeds and The Roots growing, and I think this would be a great gift for children to learn how things grow, and why it takes so long.

I like the ease of the product. However, I thought that the plant would survive by following the directions. It sprouted and the stem grew small leaves and just died. Not a product for those without a green thumb

It did not grow well in jar it came with even though instructions were followed to a T. The plant we moved outside to a plant actually grew and had a bloom
