I recently bought the Bates Men's Tactical Sport 2 boots, and they have exceeded my expectations. Right out of the box, they felt comfortable, with a lightweight design that doesn’t compromise on support. The combination of leather and nylon offers durability while allowing breathability, which is great for long days on my feet. The traction on the sole is impressive, providing excellent grip on various surfaces. I’ve worn them in both urban and rugged environments, and they've held up remarkably well. Additionally, the cushioned insole offers great arch support, making them suitable for extended wear. One thing to note is the sleek design, which makes them versatile enough for both tactical situations and casual outings. Overall, I highly recommend the Bates Men's Tactical Sport 2 boots for anyone seeking comfort, durability, and functionality in their footwear

No break-in period. Very comfortable and true to size. The zipper is fine, just wish it was on more of an angle to be able to remove boot without untying them.

The Bates Men's Tactical Sport 2 Mid Side Zip Safety Composite Toe are likely the best work half-high boot on the market today.PROS1) It works well when working, without being a full-size boot.2) Soles have good traction, could always have a little more traction.3) Boots with an integral side zipper is a must, for easy on and easy off!4) Vented for warm weather conditions.CONS1) Boot sizes are too large, whereas I'm an 8.5 typically common/normal size shoe, I'm a minimum 7 with these boots! Matter of fact, 7's might be still slightly too large once broken in!2) Boots need to be well broken in, either using mink oil or soaked in water, else the boots will be very stiff, which is good but bad for the feet.3) If well broken in using water or mink oil, the soles can pull apart from the boot, requiring wood working bar clamp and a good shoe glue. Once a good shoe glue is used, I've witnessed no further pulling apart of the sole from the boot! Believe I only used water with my initial pair long ago, and close to 6-12 months of extensive use, the soles simply pulled apart from the boot.

Edit: I bought a different brand of boots and I have to say these were the problem. They are so uncomfortable that it not worth buying. Wish I can get my money back. These are a great pair of boots. My toes feel protected with the composite toe cover but these are very uncomfortable. They hurt my feet so much that I want to return them but I've already worn them thinking that I need to just break them in.

I currently have an older pair of Bates boots that are non-zip. The soles are worn down. I work in the DOC and boots are a necessity. These returned boots are not bad but difficult to put on. I understand being new but when I got them on, they were extremely uncomfortable too. The zipper was difficult to function. When I asked my co-workers, without a delay, each said the lower quality of Bates boots actually work better that the new ones. I chose to return them and find a better option. I am on my feet for 80% of my 12 hour shift. You have to have comfortable shoes - without a doubt.

This shoe is perfect for my job as a Telecom Technician. I climb ladders all day and walk a lot. I love the zipper on the side as it makes it easy to remove and put on shoe. Just don't install insoles from the beginning. I has previously used a certain insole as it helped to not have sore feet at end of day so I put one in this brand new shoe and began to have foot pain for a couple weeks. Decided to remove insole and now foot pain went away. Maybe wait till original insole is wasted then install new one. Other than that, this shoe is very good. Would buy again.

Comfortable and very well made boots.I have bought the Bates brand before, and never been disappointed. I’m a security guard, and on my feet a lot. So very comfortable. And not as heavy as some boots, so when running, they feel like sneakers / running shoes on my feet.Very quick and prompt delivery.

Disappointed. I have purchased several Bates safety boots over the years. Ordered these seeing they were composite toe safety boots. When I received them I noticed they didn’t have the (Canadian) CSA green tag. Fit, comfort durability etc are irrelevant if the boot does not have the CSA green tag for Canada. Most people that buy safety boots buy them for work. If they are not safety standard certified most employers would not approve of their use or reimburse the costs. Also in the result of a relevant injury investigation your coverage could be jeopardized if it was discovered your boots were not CSA. I realize they are ASTM but that is not sufficient as far as I know. Not sure why they are not CSA certified. Maybe the Canadian market isn’t big enough to bother getting them certified, or these boots were just not intended to be sold in Canada and just missing the label.
