I use this in a Yamaha 62 piccolo which has a noticeable conical bore. The bottom end is very narrow so I tried cutting up a flute gauze to use with the cleaning rod but even that wouldn't fit down it. My local music store could only offer me a silk bassoon swab (I assume it's for the bocal because it has a chain on one end) and while it fits it simply isn't absorbent enough. Being a wooden instrument I worry about not drying it properly so I sought out this microfibre swab instead. The material is nicely absorbent and the drop weight is well attached to the cord. The problem is however that it's a tight squeeze to get it down the bore. I suspect this might be because it's quite new - it doesn't seem to want to bunch up very well - so I'm hoping with a few uses that it will become more floppy and pliant. I'm also not a big fan of the cord because it's a bit stretchy; when you have to the tug the swab to get it through the instrument you don't want the cord to have any give in it.I still have to use the silk bassoon swab (not absorbant enough) or a cut-up flute gauze (doesn't fit) with the cleaning rod to dry the inside of the head joint but overall I'm happy with this for the body.
