I took a chance on this 50lb compact, easy flake Orchard hay from Blue Mountain because with 8 piggies who literally eat like horses, it was worth a shot. Jackpot! The customer service is spot on. They were quick to respond and ship to me when I mentioned I was low on reserves. The hay is lush green, and lots of flowers. Just enough stalks to keep their teeth short and healthy from the proper chewing texture. I do pre-dust before loading my bin to take to the piggies room. Worth it compared to what I’m saving VS the other brands. It has literally lasted us all winter.

Value for money spent, quality of hay, I'm just in love!I'm use to buying kaytee, oxbow, and the green bag from tractor supply. All of those cost about 10-20$ less than this. I took a gamble to try this product to see how long it would last me with my 3 guinea pigs and 8 rabbits.As you can guess these critters eat a lot and it costs more to keep them happy with the hay considering they have to have it all the time.But let me just say my hay woes on pricing vs quantity are over. This box is HUGE. The hay is super COMPRESSED. so the money I spent for what I got, compared to what I'm use to, I'm never going back.The shipping took a while but otherwise floored with this selection!

Summary:I decided to give this hay-in-a-box a try. It has a wonderful, sweet smell! It is a mix of stems, leaves, and flowers. The flakes seem fairly even and of a decent size. I did not like the fact that it is just loose in a cardboard box. I would have liked it better if it was shrink-wrapped in the box or if the box was shrink-wrapped to protect it from the weather and critters. Unfortunately, for horses, this is not very economical with the number of bales I use a month. If I was using it for small animals, and had no horses, I would definitely purchase.Pros:- Nice compact size- Stacks and stores easier than balesCons:- Does not come in a sealed bag, just the cardboard boxStar Removal Reasons:1 star was removed because it does not come in a sealed bag, it is just in a cardboard box. If you do not have a covered walkway for your delivery and rain is expected, plan on being home so it doesn't get wet.

Like most horse…or donkey owners….I end up down rabbit holes looking up about new treats, vitamins and what not for my 4 legged family. I live in the mountains myself; however, this was the first time I had ever heard about, “high altitude hay†and the increased protein benefits. While I live in the mountains, they aren’t the highest mountain range by far. But, being I’ve put up hay since I was a kid with our family…I was curious as to what differences this hay would bring to the table.I was happily impressed! This hay comes in a box and it is SUPER compacted…you’re getting a lot!—imagine more like a large bale of straw, more than even a 90lb square bale of hay is how it seems because it’s perfectly dry—it’s very compacted! It’s also the cleanest hay I have EVER seen in my life…not one bit of greenbrier or weeds of any kind so far! The color is amazing green to every last bit…no yellow as most hay. The smell alone speaks to its freshness…if you like the smell of hay, you’ll love this stuff…just not as much as your 4 legged family do!If you’ve got a picky eater or concerns with colic, this is DEFINITELY the choice to go with! It’s clear why you don’t have to feed as much as standard yellow hay…this stuff is clearly amplified health food and no dust whatsoever…super clean! While the price might seem a little high per bale, you get what you pay for. This is the cleanest, freshest and most protein packed hay you’ll likely come across. Our horses (big and small) as well as our lil donkey really love it. Our donkey can be a little picky at times; however, even though he’s a sweetheart and has some age on him…he would just as well run a person over to get some of this stuff if one isn’t fast enough to give it to him!

Having two horses, one that is a garbage disposal and another that is a hard keeper that is apparently very picky when it comes to his hay, I decided to give this a try. The picky eater has been leaving a lot of his hay behind each day and I was tired of all the waste.About the product:Yes, this is actually a 50 lb box of hay. There is no other packaging - only the sturdy box. The hay is packed in easy to pull apart flakes. The hay smells amazing and is green and fresh.The geldings thought this hay looked and smelled amazing, too! They both greedily munched away when it was presented to them. Even my picky eater was happy to eat most of his flakes and has left very little behind.The quality is top notch. This would be a great alternative to having to haul bales of hay in my truck bed or trailer when I travel with the horses. This is more contained (in the box) and leaves less mess. Plus, the box is easier for me to handle without getting covered in hay or getting poked.My geldings and I approve!

The Timothy hay is very good. 5 starsâââââ! But Hearthsire customer service provides weird incorrect information on my order. They messaged me the order was cancelled, no explanation. That same day I received part of the order delivered by Amazon. 2 days later I received the remaining order delivered by FedEx. I reached out to Hearthsire about this. The response was the order was cancelled. They must not understand English language.
