I got these to add a variable resistor and 100uf capacitor for variable power in cobra radios. Worked well and I've already reordered some.

BOJACK TIP31C NPN 3 A 100 V Silicon Epitaxial Power Transistors TIP31 3 amp 100 Volt Darlington Transistors TO-220 (Pack of 20 Pcs).1. Testing on the 1st two transistors I pulled out of the package showed hFEs from 250 to 300. The hfe may be 50, but I am using them as current devices for LEDs. I designed assuming the hFE was close to hfe. Specs from other sites show that these hFE/hfe values can vary with junction temperature from 10 to 125, but 250 to 300 seems a bit high..2. Once I made the necessary corrections in the circuit everything works. For me a DC gain of 250 to 300 works great. I just wish I had known..3. These transistors might not work well as direct replacements in a circuit, but that depends on the circuit and its purpose. Perhaps when used as a switch they may work.

They work ok, heat up quick. Be sure to have a good heatsink to keep them cool. If it stays cool it works fine. This is a fairchild transistor.

Best price around I could find on these per unit (using Prime) compared to the 2 main U.S. suppliers that charge nearly as much for shipping as they do for the product. Very useful for low voltage, low current projects around the house or with the kids. ( These are a direct replacement / stand in for BD241C transistors that are no longer in production. )
