This is a decent lock for adding some security to a gate, but is accessible from only one side, so you have to decide first of all whether a single-sided lock will work for you. They make plenty of dual-sided locking latches but in the reviews you will always find someone that had a problem with keys not working on both sides, or batteries failing in cold weather, etc.So we opted to try a single-sided latch first, to see how we like it and, so far, we're happy with it. The installation was pretty simple but you do have to decide which side you want to be able to unlock the gate from. For max security it would have made more sense for us to mount it on the inside of our gate so no-one can just whack it with a big rock and knock it off, but we wanted the convenience of reaching it from the front porch, so put it on the outside. The reason I mention the rock is the screws that mount it are pretty short, like 1" or so, so they aren't that deep into the wood. For more security I plan on replacing those with some longer structural screws that don't have a Phillips head on them, so no-one can just come and unscrew the thing without the correct tool. I'll have to put some backing wood on the gate picket since the 1" screw is already poking through, but that's a minor fix. They do provide some that don't have the Phillips head on them, they're beveled so your screwdriver won't grab in the reverse direction, but I don't how you get those out later if you want to replace them like I'm planning to do, so I didn't use them.Setting a new combination was a little tricky, I couldn't follow their instructions right the first couple of times but once I figured it out, then the instructions made more sense, so plan on having some patience with that. It really isn't hard, I was just doing it backwards.So far the lock is working great, the pin slides left-right easily and the combo is easy enough to dial up. It hasn't been through a winter yet but, based on experience with a jammed ski lock once, I plan on oiling it up good before the snow comes. If the gap between your gate and fence post is more than about 1/2" you might wish the pin on this was longer, it's about an inch I think, but my set up is new with no sagging yet, so it's working for now, but that's something to consider. One thing's for sure, the price point on this is far better than the dual-sided locks we were researching, some were multiple hundreds of dollars, so this was worth trying out for less than $20.

This gate lock is legit! We are actually using it for our shed but it works the same as it would on a gate. The only think I wish is that it had a backup key just in case you forget the combination lol. Other than that, it works really well and I don't think anyone is going to smash this off our shed.

Been in use for a few months now and hasn't rusted or seazed at all,. I have it installed on a bulkhead door, I only used the lock not the latch tho, I just drilled a hole though the bulkhead door for the bolt to go into.Sofar it's worked perfectly! Keeps anyone other than tenants from opening up the basement. Installation was fairly easy and I was installing it on 3mm wrought iron so for basic installation it would be a breeze lol.Good quality for the price

Pleasantly surprised at the quality of this slide bolt locking mechanism. I used it on a cabinet door in my game room to prevent unauthorized use of my gaming videos when guests are staying in my game room/guest bedroom. It was eaqsy to install, and the one-way screws are an added bonus, meaning adventurous little boys can't unscrew the bolt to get into my videos. The combination is a little tricky to get right, but eventually I did reset the code to my preferred numbers. The long bolt is an added bonus, meaning stronger security when latched.

I ordered this combo lock for my fence door because my backyard has two and one is never used, but it backs up to a public park and I wanted to make sure no one can just walk into my yard. However, in order to properly install all 6 screws and have this lock be a sturdy security measure, the gap between your fences need to be less than 1cm. Anything more, then the metal slide isn't long enough to reach the locking slot and my gap was about an inch. This is pretty obvious in the listing pictures, but I didn't realize my door gap is so wide. I'm still giving it 5 stars because the lock is very solid metal construction and the combination was easy to set to my personal code using the simple instructions provided. I plan on using it for another purpose once I find one, unless I'm willing to take on a bigger project of fixing the gap in my fence. Don't be like me and make sure to check out your fencing gap situation first.
