I use the lens on my Canon HF G10 and my 58mm telephoto lenses for capturing my grandson's 9 year old (4th grade) football games. Video and pics are clear and precise even at 1.5 magnification. Coaches are telling me to broaden the video field, before the lens they were telling me to provide closeups???? Very good product at a great price.

Well, is there some truth in "you get what you pay for"? Maybe.I went for a cheapo $40.00 teleconverter, but was so frustrated with vignetting, that there was no option but to go for this one.I have 2 camcorders that I have tested this with:- XF 100- VIXIA HF G10The product is made by Canon, and obviously, the optics are excellent. Here is my take on the product in detail:- Functionality - Excellent. No vignetting! The image is sharp, with very little loss of light. Since functionality has the most weight in the evaluation, I would say, don't even bother with any other brand. One thing though - you cannot put in filters on this thing; Even if you tried putting in a 58mm filter on the camcorder, and then try to screw it on, it won't be stable. This is one of the reasons for giving it 4 stars, not 5.- Usability - Good. The lens is quite heavy; in fact, it is heavier than the camcorder; so it will make your hand feel "odd" in a handheld shot. And like all such teleconverters, make sure you don't zoom out - you will see the dark "tube" of the teleconverter; hence this comes in handy only after you are at full zoom.- Reliability - Excellent. No complaints after a year of use.- Cost - This is VERY expensive for a relatively simple piece of glass. This is one of the reasons for giving it 4 stars, not 5.- Supportability - Did not have to call Canon on anything yet, so albeit I cannot evaluate the support, this is one extra point for Reliability

Clear optics is worth every penny. I don't even know why cheap ~$50 lenses are made. Don't get them. This one is perfect for my needs and the image stays clean and focused.

As expected this lens needs a tripod. As the image is magnified, so is the motion. I was worried that the quality of the lens might be degraded by adding so much glass to it, but Canon makes great lenses and if you hold the camera still it will create an image that is as clear as the original lens. The screw in mount is machined well and is easy to install and remove. The lens is almost as heavy as my A10 camera and makes it a little front heavy but as I said to get a quality shot you have to have it on a tripod so the balance of the camera isn't really a factor. The lens is better than I expected. I am completely satisfied with it.

I have tried a few Teleconverters before with mixed results. This one worked very well with the Canon Vixia HF G10. In fact I was surprised at the crisp video I produced with it. This may be partly due to the quality image produced by the G10. As with any teleconverter the field of view is much smaller so its more of a challenge to locate your subject if the subject is small or blends into the background.

Canon's tele-converter produces sharp images under most conditions. I knocked off one star because in bright light situations it can produce purple fringing around subjects. I'm currently experimenting to see if different aperture settings will minimize this effect.Keep in mind that this lens WILL produce vignetting at lower zoom settings. That's normal. Just experiment, find the lower zoom limit, and work around it.

I love this tele-converter! IT works on the Cannon X10 and cannon xa30. I use it to capture wildlife at the beach and surfing. Its worth the money because it works on more than just one camera.
