I got this to replace an existing wooden rod. I needed a shorter length and thought to try this over cutting the existing rod.It's a simple product. Mine is the 17-54" model. It came as three sections, which honestly was a surprise. I expected something that offered a variable length between 17 and 54". This unit has a small, maybe 6" give to its length. But be forewarned if you add in the other pieces, they are in discrete, fixed lengths, about a foot or so. So measure carefully how long you'll actually need.Once installed, I loaded it with about 30-40' of clothes. The rail had a bit more give than I expected. It's fine. But the product description made it sound more sturdy than it proved to be.Installation is easy. I secured one end using the supplied end piece and the other end was secured to a hanger. Everything fit as advertised. It came with all the hardware necessary to attach the end pieces to wood. They provide long screws and drywall anchors for attaching the ends to masonry, although I'm not sure that's the best idea if you intend to load up the bar. I was always advised to use lead anchors in concrete.For the price, it's fine. Not special, but fine. Probably way cheaper than a wooden dowel.

This is a case of weighing your expectations. For shipping purposes, this rod comes packaged rather small. The sections of tubing break down into something incredibly compact. This can be great if you need to take the rod down and store it for periods of time, for example, if it is needed in set designs. The small size also means that it is not as sturdy as full rods made of a single piece of tubing. It also has a small amount of sag, and shows the creases where the sections of tubing meet. However, if you're using it for something like a curtain, where the rod itself will be covered by material, then I see no problems with it. It covers a great deal of space, and comes with a set screw for holding it in place, which is something I needed. It's very utilitarian and easy to install.
