About this item

  • USES 48V PHANTOM POWER: Professional dynamic microphone preamplifier that uses 48V phantom power to add 25dB of clean gain to dynamic and ribbon microphones while dropping the noise floor to an astonishing -70dB. (Note: phantom power is required and must be supplied by your audio interface or an external 48v power supply. The MB-1 does not supply phantom power).
  • MIC PREAMP FOR STUDIO AND BROADCAST RECORDING: Boost the signal of quiet instrument sources like vocals, percussion or acoustic instruments, while maintaining the natural sound of your microphone. (DOES NOT WORK WITH CONDENSER MICROPHONES)
  • LIVE SOUND AT ITS BEST: The MB-1 preamp is durable enough for the stage, and quiet enough for the studio. For live sound, you can reduce line noise on long cable runs and improve the gain before feedback ratio for public speakers or singers.
  • PROFESSIONAL SOUND CLARITY: with -70dB noise rating you'll be able to cut through the mix without adding feedback or unwanted hiss and hum.
  • DESIGNED FOR OUTSTANDING RESULTS: Coda’s microphone booster is perfect for podcasts, live streaming, radio broadcasts, live sound, and studio recording. You need great tools to get great results!

I wanted a little extra gain on my Shure MV7X when recording some gameplay through my PC and this fit the bill perfectly. Reasonably priced and the product quality feels really solid. Performance and sound quality is solid and don’t notice any glaring deficiencies. This beats paying for the more popular and expensive option.

This is the perfect solution if you're using a low-gain mic like the rode podmic. It takes phantom power, so as long as you have an audio interface or soundboard with 48v then you won't need a separate external power source. I looked at the Cloudlifter but the quality on this is just as good and I'm super impressed with how transparent it is. It really doesn't color the sound at all. Another thing worth noting is that the enclosure is metal and it has brackets on the front and back to protect your XLR cables. The brackets would work well for attaching the unit to a microphone stand with velcro too. I highly recommend for anyone that is podcasting, streaming, or recording vocals. This is the perfect solution if you're using a low-gain mic like the rode podmic. I have a decent mid-tier mic and use FL Studio. This in line clean gain really does make a difference. And very affordable, no need to break the bank on the more notorious brands.

The MB-1 does a great job of boosting the output of my Sennheiser MD-441 and E935 microphones for use with my Bose S1 portable PA system. Previously the output of the MD-441 was so low that I had to run the gain on the amp up to 100% and the sound was muddy; now I am running at 40% and the clarity is superb. There is no added signal noise that I can detect when using the preamp. The MB-1 is ruggedly built, housed in a black anodized aluminum case. Now for the critique: The MB-1 could be much smaller than it is. I can't fit it sideways into the storage compartment in my guitar case, given it's 5.5 inch (14 cm) length. This is not a deal breaker, but I like not having to lug extra carrying cases for my gear and space is at a premium. As can be seen in the photo, I am having to use an added external phantom power supply to supply power to the MB-1, in this case an Xvive P1. Yes, I could use their smaller inline version, but it would be somewhat awkward with a long mic like the 441.My question: Why doesn't anybody make a portable microphone preamp that is self-contained with an internal rechargeable battery AND a volume control? Better yet, how about making one that can be used standalone for either condenser (phantom power) or dynamic microphones (FET preamp) and is small enough to easily tuck into the storage compartment of a guitar case? That way, regardless of the microphone type in my kit, it would be good to go. Also, it would be nice if there was an easy way to secure the MB-1 to a microphone stand so that I could do a quick parking lot or offstage setup and just walk up with my gear ready to go. I also would appreciate a gain control on the preamp unit itself so that if I need to tweak things during a performance it would be right there on the mic stand. Many of the venues that I play don't have a sound tech and having to move over to the PA head to adjust things is bothersome.Overall, the MB-1 is good for what it is, a low noise, phantom powered microphone preamp, but it is a bit large and more friendly for stationary or pedal board mounted use.

I can attest this is just as good as a cloud lifter. There is no difference in performance but there is a difference in price. Save yourself a lot of money to get clean gain. It's still going strong.

I have a Rodecaster Pro with two SM7B's, which requires an in-line gain-booster.With the Cloudlifter CL-2, I can turn down my gain settings on the SM7B's from ~50 to 35.With the CODA 2-channel booster, I can turn down my gain settings on the SM7B's from ~50 to 22, leaving WAY MORE overhead on my board sliders. The CODA unit sounds the same as the CL-2 (no added noise), and it's $100 cheaper.Highly recommend this unit!

The product is OK. Nothing special. NOT worth $79. I don't wish to bash anyone's product but this is a budget device at best and I feel confident saying so. Maybe if you want some weird coloration of your mic...It does boost the sound though. There is no doubt about that. Sonically, I was better off cranking the gain on my mixer. Even my 14 yr old sitting next me readily offered his opinion as such. Case closed in my mind.

I have been needing a new microphone for a long time and the Shure SM7B ended up being my choice. The issue is even with my audio interface I would need more gain to get the sound I was looking for. This is where the MB-1 comes into place. I was planing on picking up a Cloud Lifter as I thought that would be my only option. Let me be the first to tell you save your money on the Cloud lifter and get the MB-1. I am getting 25db clean gain and its so much cheaper then the alternative. The device is well built and once you plug in your XLR cables you never have to look at it again. I have mine mounted under my desk. Perfect for this mic.

I was using a USB mic and decided to upgrade to an xlr. Opted for the shure SM58 with a steinburg UR12 interface for my hobbies. However, quickly I realized the sound quality was not all that great when I boosted the mic on the interface. The noise floor with my interface could be heard.... but any recorded vocals weren't much louder than that. So if I did any noise reduction. It muffled. I tried to fix it with EQ, but it became more work than necessary and wasn't perfect. After some research found this. It pretty much fixed most of my audio headaches. No need to spend double or triple on a cloudlifter. This does the job fine. Voice is clear and that is all I need.

Works as advertised. It's a simple plug-and-play, and the output from the mic is instantly raised. Just make sure you adjust the rest of your settings in plug-ins etc where you might hav ebumped up the gain. It's a nice clean sound, GREAT value and good price.

Thanks to other reviews, I decided to buy this instead of the popular one everyone gets. I don’t regret!!!

Bought this instead of the Cloud Lifter. You get what you pay for, as this unit did not perform to my satisfaction. I found that the unit will amplify the vocal sound, but my voice was muffled on the backend. I ended up sending it back as I wasn't happy at all. I went out and bought the Cloud Lifter. More expensive but works and sounds great! Don't cheap out on your vocals. Buy the Cloud Lifter.
