These solidly constructed pepper or salt mills arrive filled with pepper corns or salt,kosher. Nicely done,You can quickly start testing the preset marks on the pepper grinder and it amazingly efficient at grinding a lot at once.Whatever fine grind or medium grind these mills grind a lot of pepper .At any time you can change how fine a grind you desire just move the ring marked with choices and grind away easy .I'm surprised just how quickly these mills grind a lot of pepper not having to wrestle with twisting the mill it's less effort than I'm used to. They are not wood but simply clean design quite attractive on or off any dinning table ,they blend in easily.I am thinking of getting number 3 for how much I use white pepper for Asian menus.Great purchase ,and was at a sale price...also Amer. Test kitchen number 1 product in its ranking. Love these grinders.

This grinder has a lot of settings and I tested each and it does a great job. Easy to use and fill, see thru so you know when to refill. Looks classy.

It was time to replace my first Cole and Mason Pepper grinder I bought over 5 years ago. It was starting to skip while grinding. I looked at it. My husband took it apart. It didn't help. I groaned when I realized I was going to have to buy a new one. My search started about 6 months ago. I wanted the same Cole and Mason pepper grinder. The problem was there were many of the model I had around. I was having a kitchen tool party and decided to purchase a different brand through the party. It was expensive. It lasted less than 6 months before it stopped grinding. This is how I remember grinders. Breaking very easily.I ordered a different model of Cole and Mason grinders next. The problem was though it was adjustable, it was only adjustable by turning the top knob. It didn't really change the grind much. The insides were also small. I returned it. I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a grinder but then saw this one.It looked like what I wanted. This has the plastic barrel where the pepper/salt are kept. It is adjustable by turning the dial close to the bottom of the grinder. I decided to give it a try.This is just what I was looking for.The barrels hold enough salt or pepper that I am not constantly filling it. I can see inside so I know exactly how much is in each of them. They are beautiful. Something I like to put on the table.I can adjust the grind by using the dial near the bottom of the grinder instead of the knob on top.The pepper grinder: It comes set at 3. This is a perfect grind for me. It is easy to turn. I do find that when I try to grind very fine on 1 or 2, the turning is stiff and more difficult. Take the setting all the way to the max and the grind is coarse.The salt shaker: I have this set at 3 also. This is a fine grind. I think a little finer than table salt. Anything below that is more like a powder.

Overall a great pepper mill. Definitely notice a difference in grind size on each setting, from extremely fine to very course and everything in between. Easy to hold, easy to grind, works great except after a month or so of use I still don't find it very intuitive to adjust the grind setting. It should be super simple, but you have to grab/hold it just right to make the adjustment. I don't change settings every day so I have to play around with it each time. I know eventually it will become second nature, but I wish it was a bit easier. Minor gripe though - overall it is well worth the money!BTW, it came with peppercorns already loaded in, but I had also purchased the Tone's peppercorns and the Tone's are amazing - definitely the best peppercorns I have purchased!

I have bought them for the home, office and as gifts after going through numerous grinders from lesser manufactuers. Cole and Mason grinders are built to last and perform to the user's needs. Accept no less as a substitute.

I own another style of grinder by this brand, and since my other cheaper grinders just broke, I went looking for something by Cole and Mason. Their grinders are the best quality. They are easy to fill and easy to operate, and their mechanisms are very durable. I know these are expensive and that is why I hesitated for a few days before purchasing, but after reading countless reviews and comparison shopping on other sites I went with these. There only ever seemed to be cheap quality or high quality, nothing in the middle, and I decided instead of replacing cheaper ones every few years, I would just buy the good ones. My other set has lasted about 6 years so far without a hint of concern, whereas I’ve replaced the cheaters sets twice already. I believe these will last a lifetime. And they are pretty :)
