We had to replace the oil pump in a 2008 Chevy Silverado, 5.3L and discovered we needed this tool or a longer bolt to put the harmonic balancer back on. After looking at reviews we pulled the trigger on this one. 20.00 shipped overnight. Great! Well it turned out it really was great! No issues - the bearings made it easy to turn. Putting the factory harmonic balancer on was very easy. No crushed bearings or screwed up threads. Not sure why those folks had such issues. So for us - this worked great. Hope I never have to use it again!! lol But if I do, I have it. Oh and if you're doing this job, remember to buy a new harmonic balancer bolt. They're cheap. Good luck getting that 250 lb ft of torque on it. I recommend you buy the fly wheel locking tool to help with that.

I've been working on my 2008 chevrolet colorado and needed a install tool for the harmonic balancer. I went down to the local auto store and rented a kit. When I got home I found that the unit was too short to thread into the crankshaft so I had to run back to town and return it.I got back home and started looking at tools on Amazon and came across this one. The reviews were all over the place. Some negative and other were positive so I decided I would order it and see what I could do. It came in the next day as expected. I went out and put some motor oil on the threads and threaded it into the crankshaft as far as it would go and then backed it out a full turn. I also put dome motor oil on the crankshaft and the balancer. I placed the balancer on the crankshaft and then the installation bearings and nut. I held the thread rod with a 10mm and used a open end wrench to slowly push the balancer on. It went on without any problem. I wish I could use it again but if the timing chain replacement fixes the issue with my truck I should be good to go.

We tried the old school way of lightly tapping the old harmonic balancer on and it not work, it fell and broke. So we bought a new one and then this tool and it pushed it in with no effort. Just buy the tool. Like other reviews it did break the bearing of the tool installing it but it came with an extra so it’s worth it

there are no dislikes about this tool, its perfect for the money, does the job well and makes installing harmonic balancers on GM LS1 a breeze, easiest tool you'll ever use to install harmonic balancers. on the downside i lost 2 ball bearings on first try, seems like the crown that holds ball bearings in place need to be manufactured better, but it doesn't stops the tool from doing its job, i recommend, don't know what other engines this tool will work on .

Be sure to switch to the oe bolt before you run it in completely.. run it in with no problem, used some assembly lube on stud into crank and stud to nut.. once it got snug, I went another ½ turn to tighten and heard a crack sound.. upon removal I found that the outer groove washer had cracked in four places and fell apart.. so run you harmonic balancer on till you can use the oe bolt to tighten..
