After spending literal days watching YouTube videos and getting so frustrated, I was like fine, $20 is worth it if I can figure this out. It only took me two tries and now I’m able to do it without the tool. It’s also useful for playing with tension, you can adjust it and see how it affects your work. Oh and there is a little instruction book that comes with it that shows you how to do each step, so that was incredibly helpful.

Update 20250204: it took me about 3 months to get used to using this tool, but now that I am good with it I don't get any more palm pain and it alleviates the burden on my pinky finger, too. I'm missing two fingers above the middle joint and without this tool I would be so slow at crocheting! Properly threading the yarn is the biggest hurdle and I had to refer to the instruction manual several times to get it right. I'm now 6.5 months post amputation and can crochet Confidently again.4 months ago I lopped off my ring and middle fingers between the first and second knuckle on my yarn holding hand. I can still hold the yarn Mostly, but there are some difficulties. In anticipation of this hiccup I ordered this tool as soon as I got home from surgery, and I'm glad I did!It took some getting used to, and I'm still adjusting. I am tossing in 4 stars because there is room for improvement, but I've been able to crochet several items, including a 0.75 mm Golden Snitch bookmark for my grandson by using this tool.Pros:- The tension dial allows for persnickety adjustments- Any yarn up to bulky can be easily used - not sure about chunky chenille type or dense yarns, though I think they'll work due to my perceived design flaw (in the cons)- Several options for holding it- It's like gaining replacement fingers- The curves prevent the plastic from digging into hands and fingersCons:- The slot at the top of the yarn loop on the handle allows the yarn to slip out; however, it's still possible to crochet with that strand free. This is why I believe thicker yarns might work. It needs a way to secure the yarn in there, though, because it does change the angle and therefore how I have to grab the yarn with my hook. I'm trying to think of a way to close that gap when I'm actively crocheting- It could be a bit more ergonomic for larger hands (amputated limbs have swelling for the first year or so) - The exterior part of the handle (the vertical bar that sticks out and is next to the project) could be thinner to leave more space for the fingers- I find I need a little more distance between my project and the yarn loop on the handle - being able to adjust or just having more space between the yarn loop and the finger grip could help - like a telescoping section that could be dialed up and downThe problem is, once you start adding those features it requires moving parts that can fail over time. As it is currently the only thing I could see breaking or wearing out is the yarn loop on the handle, and that's going to take a good long while.Overall I'm finding this to be highly helpful in getting back to crocheting after a traumatic accident. I only wish the kits and the tool were listed separately as they seem to have completely different reviews, with the tool gaining a good number of positives.

I saw someone asking about this on one of the crocheting Facebook pages. It had me completely intrigued. It is very strong and sturdy. It also seems very simple to use. With that in mind, if you crochet on a regular bases this will be difficulty to change everything about your crocheting habit. I am use to wrapping the yarn around my pinky; we all have our own way of wrapping it around our hands for tension. If you think your technique is close to what the picture shows then it will definitely work for you. It just isn’t working for me and got me very frustrated. Now, if you are just learning how to crochet and do not have your own habits yet, this product would do wonders. My hand definitely did not hurt as it always does. Sadly, it has slowed me down tremendously and frustrated me so I am probably going to have to returns this. I wish the person who had this genius idea the best of luck with this product.

This helped me tremendously with my tension and with working in the magic ring the only thing I didn’t like was how fast the YouTube tutorials were so I had to put them in slow mo and watch first before attempting to hook up the string but once I got the yarn on it works amazingly

Product is very helpful for learning. I tried to learn how to crochet a while ago, but I could never get a good grip of the yarn. With this item in use (and a couple of YouTube videos), I've learned to crochet!

I have nerve damage and pain in my hand and unfortunately this did not help. I think you would have to be having a very specific type of pain when crocheting for this for help and I don't think you'll know if it is for you until you try it. Other than that it is very bulky and gets in the way a lot. It will slow you down. If you're a beginner just learn how to crochet without it, it's hard at first yes but better in the long run. If you have pain, you'll need to try it out to see if it's worth it. But it WILL get in the way and make you slower either way.

The knob for tension was missing and since I haven't had a good history with returns, it's a total waste of money. Don't waste your money on this.

This is great for making magic rings, which is what I use it for the most. The design does slow down crochet a bit due to the thread laying in an awkward position, but the description explains that.

Good when you get used to them, they helped me, but Now I don't need them anymore because I can keep a good tension without the use of this Item, good for beginners though
