I saw someone complaining that they come "scratched" with "the red paint falling off." That's true. This is an industrial grade piece of hardware. If you are buying this, it's because you want something that a life might depend on. If you don't have a need for that grade of material and care more about looks (totally fine) you can get a cheaper product that is painted. For what this is designed to be, there's nothing better and it's worth the price.

Crosby shackles are high quality for sure. Good things are expensive.

I chose this shackle for my steel bumper made for this larger 1" pin. I was worried this was a knock-off since it doesn't show the WLL stamped in the picture, but on delivery, there's a sticker saying "Made in USA", along with CROSBY and WLL stamped on the shackle as is industry standard. I'm weary of China's steel quality, and this isn't the place I wanted to take a chance on less regulated markets. Other similar options I found that were similar (go to manufacturers' websites to confirm P/N):- Self-colored shackle from Chicago Hardware - 6 1/2 ton (might look better, too)- Orange epoxy'ed pin shackle from CM - 7 or 9 tonKeep in mind not all strap loops will fit over this size of shackle (eyes for the pin are 2" wide), but if you use blocks with your winch, you need a high WLL. If I find myself pulling out a larger truck on the trail, I don't want my shackle flying off into anyone's forehead. Now the weakest links in my set up are the wire rope and hook, and I'll eventually upgrade the hook. The extra $50 for two of these shackles is worth that security to me.

USA-made Crosby shackle with 1" screw pin. This is a nice heavy galvanized D-ring shackle. Pin is painted red but will arrive chipped up & flaking off. I am using this with my Factor 55 HitchLink 2.5". I have several 3/4" Crosby shackles (with 7/8" pins) and they were too loose and rattled around so bought this for a snugger fit in the Hitchlink. Still probably about a 1/16 difference between the pin and the HitchLink hole.

This is the only brand of shackle that I will use. When your life is literally counting on quality equipment - why risk your life with made in China junk? The quality difference between Crosby shackles and cheap shackles are night and day.

I trust this brand for rigging and lifting. If your lifting a heavy loads dont use the cheap China made crap you'll find for 2 for 20 dollars. This is a real tool. Dont cheap out on safety.
