I used this to make a monkey fist lanyard this weekend after it arrived. It’s a great addition to the tools I’ve been able to accumulate so far. I pulled fairly aggressively to tighten the knots. So far it seems sturdy enough for the small diameter rope cordage.

This works well and has already solved many of my knot-related life problems(John 3:16 solved the others).Seriously though, never thought this would be such a handy tool. Easily penetrates knots without scoring/snagging delicate materials. The genuine wood handle is fairly large which makes it easier to control. Also, it has put up with my abuses (accidental dropping, prying, exposure to cutting tools, ect) without noticeable signs of wear.But what really makes this fid special? What makes it rise above all other fids??? Made in United States of America. By purchasing, I just helped employ someone in New Jersey at C.S. Osborne tool's ninety-year-old headquarters. Could be a relative I haven't even met yet.That's cool.

When I was more rotund, I had several shorts whose tie-strings that were tied to hold my shorts up. Over the years the knots between wearing and washing/drying have become cinched beyond belief. Now, as I am not as rotund, I need to retie them, but I have been unable to untie the knots. On my first tour in the Navy was on a destroyer. I was assigned as a division officer in the Weapons Division. My sea-and-anchor detail station was on the fantail. I learned about knot tying and splicing so I knew exactly what I needed, a marlin spike to loosen the knot enough to untie it.. When I looked for marlin spikes, they were all too big or did not look like they were easy to use. Then, I remembered another name, fid.I found this one that seemed to meet my requirements. I knew it was for me when the description mentioned its use on parachute cords. When I received it, the fid worked perfectly. It took some time to create enough slack in the knot to be able to untie it.Before purchasing, I looked over the reviews. The only negative remark on its functionality was that it was smaller that the purchaser thought. My accompanying photo shows how the handle fits well into the heal of my palm. Using the fid requires forcing the fid under the cord in the knot, this bulbous handle made that action quite comfortable and easy.I am thoroughly pleased with this fid and strongly recommend it.

Works good on loosening and tightening knots in 550 Paracord. Fits pretty good in my hand (man’s xl). Handle could be just a bit larger. The flat part of the blade allows for good indexing, and helps spread out the knots as I work them loose. Kept looking at the $20 fids, and went with this. It might not expand the knot as much, but I feel it is perhaps more ergonomic and just as useful. And it is pointy enough to get into tight, Paracord knots, but blunt enough that it won’t pierce the Paracord accidentally. So far I’m really happy with it. Measures in at about 5". Delivered on time as promised and in great shape.

I am very pleased with the quality of this made in America FID. My wife was with me when I opened it up and she said "wow that's nice." LOL Also, it works like it's supposed to and delivery was quick with no issues..
