  • Our heating cable turns on when the temperature is below 37.4°F and turn off when the temperature is above 59°F.

  • Yes, if the diameter of the pipe is larger than 30 inches, the "S" wrap is more recommended.

  • You can move the thermostat away from the pipe and it will adjust itself to the environmental temperature.

We operate a small water supply system. At our pump stations we have connections that we have had difficulty keeping from freezing during extreme cold weather. Most of the other heat tapes we’ve seen were too long for the connections. We ordered the 3ft and the 6ft versions. Both lengths kept our connections from freezing during our last severe cold spell. We also liked the control box that allowed us to adjust the temperature the tape came on as well as seeing what the temperature of the pipe was while the tape was energized.

I like this has an adjustable thermostat, external probe, etc. It just seems like there could have been better wire harnessing to support them coming out of the thermostat box. I'll have to rig up wire supports with some plasti-dip or a similar form-fitting rubber solution. Otherwise, it's own weight and wind flexing them is going to eventually shear them off.Oh, and you might want a roll of wide (3-4") aluminum tape for best heat conduction. The conductive tape it comes with is super skinny... maybe only half inch or so.

This is the second one, first one sparked and smoked upon first plugging it in. There was soot around where the cord entered the sealed controller. Probably a single hair sized strand of wire shorted and burnt away opening up the short because the controller seemed to start working afterwards. I was not willing to take a chance using it and having it fail again and cause a fire. I’m was willing to try another one because I like the idea of having the programmable controller on it. The controller also has a light indicating when the heat tape should be heating. Not just a plug with it on all the time or a hidden, fixed temperature, thermostat. There were no reviews when I bought this but I was willing to try another one. Amazon got me a second one next day thank you very much. The second one did not spark when I tested it. I am cautiously optimistic but only time will tell how reliable it will be.

This is exactly what I need in one simple package. Have a condensate line from a high efficiency furnace that runs a long horizontal then exits the building and elbows toward the ground. In very cold weather it freezes in the pipe once it leaves the crawl space. I've not installed yet, but my plan is to run it straight, along the bottom of the pipe. Since it is not a constant flow, and is just a trickle in a 1" pvc pipe, and doesn't get cold and freeze until it is outside which won't have the tape on it, I will stick the sensor in the hole in the foundation that the pipe exits, and set the Set temp higher, maybe 42 instead of 37-38 like the fixed ones. And set the Off temp close to that, like 44. So that it will warm the water enough before it leaves the building so that it doesn't have time to freeze in the last few feet of pipe, but doesn't stay on in air temps that dont need it. Hoping that works, I think it will.

Used to heat a 4 foot section of PEX pipe that stubs out to provide water to our motorhome. The LED temperature display is a handy addition. I would recommend this product!
