It is my first Baroque bow and I had no experience with Baroque bows. Still I took a risk and bought it. It is a bit shorter and lighter than the modern bow, so at the start it was somewhat strange feeling but after a half hour of play I fully got comfortable with it. The bow teaches right way of playing with it. The sound indeed comes softer and smoother than with the standard bow. I love this bow even more than my modern bow (which is a good one,$600 Jr Silva) and I would recommend anyone who enjoys playing old music to get this wonderful experience.
