This gear fits most starters for Tecumseh 8 through 10 hp engines. It is properly beveled to prevent premature failure (unlike some original gears). Yes, the cover isn't a perfect fit because the clip changed, but it stays fairly secure once mounted in place. *** Make sure you purchase a gear that is beveled downward both to the rear and the outside of each tooth, like this one, to ensure proper engagement of the flywheel without gear damage. ***

The Teeth are 1/8" Shorter then OEM making the throw of the starter 1/8" shorter. The plastic cap does not fit on the end of this pinion & you'll need to JB weld it on due to the lip being smaller. I bought a new starter first since it was quicker to get & then later bought this to replace my broken OEM pinion since the original starter was good. I hope being it's 1/8" shorter it engages with the flywheel properly or it's a waste of $20.00.

Replaced a completely worn starter gear. Be aware. The hardest part of this job is removing the "C" retainer clip on the end of the shift. Once passed that. 1, 2, 3, and your done.

I ordered this gear along with a kit from the same company I figured I'd have an extra just in case. I noticed it was slightly shorter than the original but the listing clearly stated it fits the 37000 starter. After struggling to get it apart (w/o the $80 specialty tool) and getting it installed I found the gear wouldn't engage with the flywheel. I tore it down again, pulled out the kit, and installed that gear along with all the new parts which came with it. It still didn't work. I tore it down one more time and tried to shim it out with a washer the thickness of the difference, this also didn't work. I reached out to the seller thinking maybe they had a better idea. I received a quick response telling me to return it. Well it's almost 2 weeks past the return date so there's no way to do that and I guess I wasted my money. Off to get a new starter elsewhere since I can't trust if I buy one from this company it will actually fit my machine.

My old gear had several teeth broken. This is a functional replacement for it, however, the orignal protective cap doesn't fit on it (too loose). They should fix that or sell a new cap along with the gear... Minus 1 star for that.

This was a perfect fit for the 8hp Tecumseh engine I had for a snowblower. The height is about 32mm. It was a circa 2005 model 825. Fairly easy install as long as you don’t have issues with the C clamp. I used 2 short-nose pliers to open up.
