After I put the new oil in my air compressor, it was much quieter, I think it’s good quality oil.

I purchased a Craftsman Professional 27-gallon vertical compressor, with the American-made Devilbiss tank, which has suited my needs beautifully. Of course, the manual states you should change the compressor oil every 6 months or so and in small print on another page, they say you MUST use a synthetic compressor oil. Bummer. All that Sears sells is dino oil and I bought four bottles of it on sale because the showroom rep told me I'd need it. Realizing he sold me what literally amounted to snake oil, I took the bottles back to Sears and after arguing the point with a manager, got a store credit. Fine, whatever. Off to the internet, and of course, Amazon didn't let me down. I found the DeWalt synthetic, did an oil change (and an air tank petcock change while I was at it). The old oil was original and had tiny metal flakes in it (probably because I had to top 4 oz off with the dino stuff during break-in). With a full tank of new DeWalt synthetic oil, the compressor runs like a WHISPER! I thought it was quiet before, but WOW! It's just a lovely putt-putt-putt-putt-putt when it's running now. I couldn't be happier. Pricey? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely. :-)FOLLOW-UP - 8 months later:I recently used my Aircat angle grinder to strip the powder coat off a 10-square foot piece of metal (the bottom plate of a synthesizer I'm restoring). It took about 3 hours and 5 roloc discs to get the job done and the end result was superb. The compressor ran non-stop for almost 2.5 hours at one point just to keep up. The next day, I had a look at the oil and it still looks as good as new. I'm totally sold on this DeWalt synthetic stuff.

Ace sells compressor oil for about $7.00 a quart and from what I can tell from A LOT of research, it is all thesame with the exception full synthetic. What has been used in compressors for the last 80 years? "Non Detergent, 30Wt" and there is a lot of miss-information out there.I have owned a couple of used compressors that the previous owners have used regular 30Wt auto oil on, and you know what you get when you use this stuff?Open up the release valve on the air tank and you not only get air, but you get oil. (Not what you want)The claims from this guy and that on the internet are almost comical in there ramblings of what they have used over the years, and then you get their used junk. A new compressor will last a good while on the wrong oil, but sooner or later, 0-rings and gaskets wear out from the extra heat the regular oil creates, or the corrosive action of the auto full synthetic (which is a detergent oil).If the manufacturer recommends full synthetic then use that type of compressor oil.If the manufacturer recommends compressor oil then you can get away with the Ace type oils at about 1/3 the price. The reason I rated this synthetic compressor oil at only four stars is because of the price and as a matter of fact the price of ALL full synthetic or conventional compressor oils. The price is overly inflated. If you need a full synthetic, then this is the one to get. If you want to pay more, then get Royal Purple. One more thing, if you are rebuilding the pump (rings, reeds, gaskets) run the non synthetic in the compressor for a few hours to let the rings seat, and make sure you hone the cylinder/s.

This is exactly what I needed. Price was fair. I always trust the Dewalt brand.

This oil is difficult to find. This oil is quite expensive, but is correct for warranty per Dewalt. This oil is blue the same that is in my new (DXCM303) air compressor.I used this to top off the crankcase oil after I had to tilt the compressor a bit and some came outof the crankcase vent hole, No major deal.I have plenty on hand now when it is time to do a change on the oil.
