Outer box was clean, but inner product box was damaged. No damage to the planer though.Worked very well in a test on a straight grained well dried board.Expect to be happy with this.

I bought a chainsaw mill, cut some logs into planks and they came out quite rough...tried sanding them , it would have taken forever..bought this hand held planer and it worked great !! been using it a lot with no issues..

I have some 20v drills that I have been using for years and they are really holding up. I have minimal time on this but it seems very well made.

I am a Dewalt tool guy. For a long time I didn't care about the quality of what I bought because I dealt with what I had to since I didn't have the extra money to buy the quality stuff. Now that I have the ability to pay for the better quality tools, this is where I'm going to keep buying. In that respect, I love this planer just because it's a Dewalt. I know it will last a long time, and will be able to take the abuse I throw at it. My problem with this particular model is that it feels a bit under powered for what I need. I have the 20V battery powered hand planer, which is FANTASTIC except for one minor thing: it eats through battery power super quick when you're planing a lot of material. Since I make tables from live edge slabs, I tend to have a LOT of planing I need to do, and even with an 8 amp hour battery, the 20V only goes for 20 minutes or so before having to swap the battery out, and even with 5 other batteries (3 2 amp/hour, 1 5 amp/hour), it's not long before I am waiting for them to charge so I can continue. Since the slabs tend to be dense wood and I'm usually taking off between .5 and 1 inch of material.... well, it takes a LONG time. Anyhow, I bought this planer so that I could use it while I'm waiting for batteries to charge, and it seems like it's made for smaller jobs, like small boards, and less dense material. In the amount of time I could go down a quarter of an inch with the 20V it seems I was only able to do about an 8th of an inch with this. I really wasn't paying attention to the power requirements for it when I bought it, but I'm fairly certain I should have gotten the 7 amp corded instead of the 5. C'est la vie, I suppose. It's not really worth sending it back and trading it in, since it won't be used all the time, but if you are trying to do larger pieces of dense wood with this and not have to worry about batteries being charged, you might want to spend the extra money and get the 7 amp.

We all have those pieces of wood that are two good to throughout, but hard to sand and remove stain and paint from. The planer gives you new look to old lumber. Much better than costly new lumber.
