I bought this to informally evaluate a handful of "diamond" earrings and other jewelry pieces. Many were labeled as 14K or sterling. Mom buys them when she sees them at auctions and so forth.We found a couple of nice but smaller actual diamond stud earrings. Now, if we can find a buyer for the stones, my tool will be paid for.I would definitely buy this again if needed.

After reading the reviews, I’m surprised this diamond tester actually works. It’s important to read the instructions carefully and calibrate the tester sensitivity to the size of stone being tested and ambient air temperature. I’m giving it 4/5 stars because even though it works, the battery cover doesn’t click back on when there is a battery inside, which is disappointing. I have not figured out how to focus the 60x loupe correctly yet.

These are so easy to use and accurate. I've use mine at second hand stores and yard sales. Have found over $4000 worth of rings for less than $100.

It has nice feature, but testing diamond jade fake jade, cz, crystal reads the same, I turned it to 2, on fake jade and genuine jade they both read at a 5 I believe it's suppose to read at 6 or 7 for a genuine it doesn't tell what green means and yellow means? Only that red is for Diamond.If anyone knows how this works I would sure like to know before I decide to return this, it has instructions how to care for it, but don't tell much of color and numbers what they mean...

I purchased this while I was buying a diamond chain and pendant. When I got it it looked nice but immediately once putting the battery in and turning it on the light indicator on the side began to fade and I couldn't even see the yellow lines at all. I replaced the batrery thinking that was the issue and for 3 minutes it worked and then began to fade again. I don't trust it and relied on the Jewlery shops.

It was not dependable nor did it accurately register diamonds versus not diamonds. It went through batteries like lightning and the battery case cover fell off frequently I have bought four and I'm finally done with them.
