Normally I use a large c-clamp but sometimes it can be awkward.I just placed the old pad against the pistons, placed the tool in and easily pushed back the listens slowly.Works great.

Product broke. Stripped threads!Awful! Was using as intended..brake caliper piston compression. I will definitely go back to using a C-clamp. It's what always worked for me. You can stop at your local favorite hardware store to pick one up and always at a reasonable price for a much better quality tool.

Here's an adequate brake caliper piston compressor tool. It's quite handy to have when replacing automotive brake pads and especially when installing new brake calipers. Having a tool to push the caliper pistons back as far as they can go makes putting fresh brake parts back on the rotor so much more convenient. My only complaint is that the screw part does not twist evenly. Even before any use, it spins smoothly for 180 degrees, then gets tight for the next 180 degrees, and repeats for the entire spread of the tool. Just mediocre quality control, I suppose.Just a note, this style of tool should not be used on vehicles with an electrically actuated park brake.(The penny in the photo is for reference and is not included with the product).Overall, I am content with this caliper piston compressor tool and I would recommend it for anyone doing brake work on vehicles with purely hydraulic brake calipers.

Used it on an 83 Datsun 280ZX. Not exactly a beefy brake job.Happy with it, got this tool to help with our home garage work. I'm not worried about the rivet holding the arm. I also used a pipe to extend it, and get more leverage. If the rivet fails, I'll just use a nut/bolt or similar. This is basic Harbor Freight quality, and expected for the price. Maybe it would be a better deal around $15, but for not having to drive across town and go into the HF....Confident I'll be happy with this on the 02 R50/QX4 SUV, too. The Pathfinder is not ready for brake work, so the '14 will have to wait.I will have to update IF this fails when I do the Armada brakes in October '24, those are the biggest we have. Its a 2020. If this handles that fine for our home hobbyest needs, it'll keep its 5* review. If it fails, I'll update end of Oct.

This design would seem like a great concept, but I wouldn't call it "heavy duty". The size is smaller than I anticipated. It was difficult to press back my 4 piston calipers,, I had to do each side a few times. The screw handle, which can be flipped to each side as you turn, but the rivet which holds this piece, will eventually be the single point of failure. Overall, I can see this working well with smaller single-piston calipers. I wouldn't use this in an auto shop where you are changing many brakes. Look elsewhere.

Sometimes you come across a tool that just makes sense and makes you wonder why you didn't discover it sooner. This is definitely one of times for me.In the past I've used a clamp and a small scrap of wood (old school) method to compress calipers when doing break jobs. If you've ever done that, you know they can walk or cause issues with the rubber boot being pushed one way or the other .Absolutely zero issues using this tool. It compresses straight down and holds like a champ without the bulk of the old clamps. Makes changing your brake pads a lot smoother and easier.
