We wore out a different brand of carbide-tooth cold saw, and picked this up as a replacement. It's been about a month, and so far we're pretty happy with this one—it is not perfect, but it's much better than the other one.Best things:1) Saw is variable speed. We routinely cut B7 (alloy steel) threaded rod to about Ø1.25" and B8SH (strain-hardened stainless) to Ø1". In these diameters this is kindof pushing the envelope for reasonable blade life at the more typical 1350 RPM, but I set this saw to 800 RPM and told everyone to leave it there, and we're still on the factory blade, despite some patient fool making a couple cuts in some nasty Ø2.5" cast 304 SST (at 1350 this would 100% have smoked the blade).2) Excellent safety-guard lifter. Simple linkage has much smoother operation than the cam-based systems used in most of the other models on the market. (This is important because it makes it easy to not jerk the blade into the start of the cut and break teeth.)3) Really solidly built. It's heavy! Acme threads on the vice, really solid base and hinge mechanism, etc... the rigidity makes better cuts and it seems it should last a long time.4) Somewhat quieter than the old saw. There's a couple things that could be better, though:A) Several people here don't like how the light stays on all the time. (They told me to make sure that made the review.)B) Choice of washer on the lock mechanism for the vice angle adjustment seems suspect. If we adjusted the angle very often I think it'd chew up the mating surface.C) A bit more overtravel on the trigger would be good. Had some people accidentally releasing the on-switch in the middle of a cut and think they stalled it. (Saying "squeeze a bit harder" seems to work)D) Motor driver power factor is a bit low (almost 0.6 under load), so this saw peaks at over 20A in a heavy cut (where it'll happily make >1600W). Not an issue for us, on 20A breakers, might be if you're on 15A or have other things on the circuit.

Wow…l i had a different brand that lasted about a year … it worked well, or I thought it did until I purchased this one.. wow, what a difference. The variable speed and soft start is a game changer. Time will tell how long it lasts.
