I bought this after discovering the power steering pulley on my N54 had fractured due to impact with the subframe (a known issue withe these engines in the early years), which can cause the belt to slip off and be ingested through the crank seal, which almost always ultimely results in bits of belt clogging oil passages and starving the engine of oil, causing a sudden, catastrophic failure and destroying the engine. This pulley is aluminum and as such, it is much stronger than the factory hard plastic pulley. The weight difference is quite minor, and the size/fitment is perfect. Note that these pulleys do not require a power steering pulley remover or installer if you have an electric ratchet or some creativity.Loosen the pulley bolts slightly before removing your belt, then once belt is removed, remove the bolts and use a long screwdriver or a pry bar and go back and forth between the sides and pry the old pulley forward very gently a tiny bit each time. Eventually the pulley will come free. When you go to install the new pulley, it's easy to get the bolts most of the way in, but once you start trying to tighten them down, the pulley will want to rotate. Here's where you can use your electric ratchet to rotate each bolt told quickly, but be very careful not to over-torque. Make a few passes if you can to ensure they are all snug and that the pulley has seated on evenly and that it turns freely with no jiggling and no rubbing sounds. Do not damage the belt mating sruface of the pulley in any way! That means don't try clamping down on that outside area of the bullet where the belt will make contact because that abrasion will cause your belt to quickly break unexpectedly. Also make sure no pulleys anywhere have any oil or damage or burrs of any kind. Clean the entire area thoroughly and carefully if any oil is present and be careful not to contaminate your alternator or the bearings of any shafts of pulleys (i.e. your crank).

Great replacement, a couple of recommendations: 1. Be careful how you remove the old pulley, there’s a coolant pipe that runs under it next to the sway bar, it’s plastic, and likely brittle, don’t use it as a prying prop… 2. Get longer bolts, I used 20mm stainless with flat washers, the factory bolts are too short

This pulley replaces the brittle plastic pulley that BMW chose. My old pulley was cracked from another BMW mistake that causes the power steering pulley to hit the subframe. I already added more clearance. At least now if it taps the subframe again I don't run a high risk of sending a shreded belt into my main seal damaging the engine.

Does not fit 335d... is bigger diameter and is not in line with the other pulleys.

If you have a older n54 07-08 you need to replace your PS pulley asap and this is the upgrade you need

Part seems to be good quality but did not work on my N55 335i. The pulley offset is just a bit off and sat too far back, causing the belt to squeal badly and push the belt backward towards the block.I wasn't sure it would fit but wanted to give it a try.The part I received also didn't look like the picture. The part I received was completely painted black and did not have any of the machined surfaces like the one in the picture.
