What a nice axe. I needed to sharpen it to the profile I like but that was totally expected. The handle was thick, straight grained, and substantial, very happy with that. After personalizing it and using it quite a lot it is now my favorite hand axe.

I had to work on it a little to get it sharp. I sanded the blade a little. In short, I made it to suit myself.Now is good wood axe. ðŸ‘

Just received this today, the head had a pronounced wiggle as soon as it came out of the packaging. It shifted an easy 1/2 backwards, forwards, up and down. The fit on the handle was terrible, with huge gaps all around the bottom of the eye. Just swinging it through the air I could feel the head shift back and forth. I suspect that with any use at all the head would come sailing off.The “leather†sheath is also incredibly cheap pleather. I didn’t expect much at this price point, but we’re talking Halloween costume quality fabric here. The edge is nothing special, about what I’d expect from a mass produced axe, neither sharp nor dull.I’ll admit I took a chance here, and I didn’t expect much from an axe at this price point, but this managed to sail well below my already low expectations. I’m willing to overlook a lot of flaws, little cosmetic stuff like a low quality sheath, and things like a bad factory edge aren’t really that big a deal, but a tool that is almost guaranteed to fail the first time you really use it is a tool that should never have left the factory. The loose head is a safety issue and I will be returning this.

Overall I like this hand ax. It feels good in the hand with decent balance. I actually purchased this to carve wood with. In the current case I am cutting/carving a grotto into a large pin oak stump. The ax performed well and held an edge. It does not come with a very sharp edge and I spent some time with a file and sharpening stone and brought it to a better level of sharpness. The head did loosen after a few hours of use. The head is still tight to the handle, but a bit of play at the front and back of the ax head hole. I injected some epoxy into those spaces and the head tightened up. How well my fix works long term remains to be seen.For the price I think this is a good buy
